Therapists for college students near 80309
When you enter my office, you enter a safe space intended for change. Asking for help is not always easy and you are taking the first steps towards a gratifying life. Healing is a journey, and I would love to join you down this path to accomplish your goals. I am here to listen and support you every step of the way. During our time together I hope we can identify what is holding you back and create a plan that best supports you. Most things in life are not one-size-fits-all and the same applies to therapy practices. You are the expert in your own experience so I will tailor my skills to best fit your needs. Before coming to Better Life, I worked with adoptees and their families to manage programs and foster community. Some of my other work includes facilitating group discussions, leading activities that promote self-identity and character, helping youth to take on a positive self-view, and supporting social interaction for older adults.
My approach to therapy is person-centered and focuses on identifying & building upon one’s internal strengths, rather than deficits. I view the therapeutic process as a collaborative partnership. Together, we work toward goals that feel authentic and meaningful to you. I offer consistent, unconditional support while also “keeping it real” in a way that enables honesty, growth, and connection. Authenticity is one of my core values, and I hope that showing up as my true self encourages a foundation of safety and trust in our work together. I respect every client’s individual experiences, journey, culture and viewpoints and I offer a welcoming space to explore client’s concerns, goals, etc. I believe everyone carries a unique story, and sometimes life’s challenges or traumas can distort the way we understand ourselves. My goal is to help clients reframe their narratives, develop more compassionate self-talk, and navigate life’s ups and downs with greater confidence and ease. We all have inherent strengths and I strive to help clients identify, reclaim, and nurture those unique gifts. I have extensive experience in the mental health field across a variety of settings, working with adults of diverse backgrounds and concerns. Much of my work has included supporting neurodivergent clients (particularly ADHD), LGBTQIA++ individuals, folks going through difficult life transitions and women with complicated trauma. I specialize in trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and grief. I also have a passion for working with members of the kink community and the geriatric population.
Figuring out who you are and what you want while in college is such a powerful but stressful time. Not to mention trying to navigate friendships, family, your own mental health, and possibly figuring out other identity pieces, too (such as sexuality, gender identity, or possible neurodivergence). I get how confusing and big things can feel and I would absolutely love to dive into all of the things that are important to you. Helping you sort through your emotions, ideas, boundaries, relationships, values, identity, and where you want to go in life (and attempt to take care of yourself in the process). I bring creativity, humor, experiential approaches (art or somatic work), and trauma-informed perspectives to how I work. I am also a queer and neurodivergent identified therapist, so I understand the process of coming to understand yourself when you feel different from the world around you.
I help college students with anxiety, ADHD and family conflict. I specialize in helping them with the uncertainty of being on their own, the pressure of pleasing their family, and working through relationship stressors to graduate. Most of my clients are young men making a transition to launching and women that feel judged by other women and family.
“With adversity comes opportunity” from the I Ching- Or Book of Changes The decision to seek therapy can be due to times of stress or the desire to seek change. We know that change is not always a straight path. To take a “road less traveled” can be filled with a beautiful river that flows and leads to clarity or it be a be a river filled with large boulders that need to be traversed with help and support. Therapy can be a tool that facilitates resilience and transformation. My approach in therapy is to first engage in a process of discovery. As your therapist, we will work together to discover what events, situations, and relationships in your life or your past do not work for you now. It is really important to understand how your life works in order to set goals and create change. Most importantly, it is important to remember that change affects all the people in your life. Do things feel off track and overwhelming this semester? Procrastination, imposter syndrome, lack of academic focus, feeling socially awkward, breakups, friend drama, existential fear of what comes after graduation, family conflict, relationship communication breakdown, feeling like everyone else has it together but you, roommate boundary issues, school/work/social out of balance? Yep, that sounds hard. Let's talk. While I do specialize in the treatment of anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, and life transitions, there may be additional or underlying challenges that cause you to feel frustrated, unmotivated, overwhelmed, ashamed, or sad. Whatever your struggles, together we can help you better understand what’s going on and what may be getting in the way of change and feeling more like yourself. My approach to our therapy will be goal directed, and the strategies and techniques that we will utilize are research based; CBT, ERP, mindfulness, to name a few. You will leave each session with action items, and we will work together as a team. I will bring to our work substantive training, many years of practice, patience, empathy, curiosity, and reliability. ACCEPTING CLIENTS IN: CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, FLORIDA, TEXAS
I am a psychologist in private practice. I work with students to help them cope better with depression, anxiety, academic and family stressors, and relationship issues. I like to work with students over time to sustain lasting and meaningful changes in their lives so that they can successfully work toward their goals. I help students navigate their family and friend relationships as well as work through any old patterns that get in their way of getting along well with others and managing their day to day stressors.
I work with trauma-survivors to provide a loving, healing, safe space where you can process your experiences, be seen & supported around what happened, gain important knowledge or insight around how this experience may be affecting you, and learn new ways to cope with the losses you incurred. As a client-led therapist, you are always in control of the work we are doing together in therapy. I have an array of interventions and tools that we can work with, from working with the mind (ie. CBT), the body (ie. Brainspotting), or through looking at the macro (society) and micro (internal family systems) systems that are affecting you or preventing you from living your best life. My goal is to make the therapy room safe, loving, and open so you can have the space to self-reflect and make conscious choices of how to move towards healthier living. I offer FREE consultations to make sure we are a good fit and you'd like to work with me. Please sign up on my website for an immediate appointment.
The journey I embark on with clients and my perspective is informed by an alchemical Mind/Body/Soul model, which uses Jungian-based and Embodied Psycho-dynamic principles, combined with other modalities that recognize the multiple aspects of psyche and dynamics within the human experience. My perspective holds that unresolved issues from the past create thought, belief, behavior, and life patterns that negatively impact the present. I believe all people are beautiful divine souls. Our suffering and pain on this earth-walk takes nothing away from our divinity, it births our compassion and spiritual consciousness. This perspective has been the guiding light of my life's path.

Some Areas I Specialize In: High-Stress Academic Programs Ph.D. programs, Law School, and other demanding fields can be overwhelming. Hi, I am Misty. I work with college students, children, teens and adults who feel worn down by anxiety, low mood, stress, or health changes and want to feel steady and present again. You might reach out for support with depression, anxiety, ADHD, burnout, or trouble sleeping, yet what you are really longing for is relief, clarity, and a sense that your mind and body are finally on the same team. Many of my clients are caregivers or helping professionals who show up for everyone else and are ready for a space that is just for them, where they can slow down, be heard, and begin to restore balance. In our work together, I offer warm, collaborative care that helps you feel seen while we untangle what is happening beneath the surface. I provide holistic medication management, CBT and DBT-style therapy, help with ADHD and burnout struggles, and support for major depressive disorder. If you feel tired of carrying so much on your own, you are not alone. You deserve a space where you can slow down, be heard, and feel supported. If this resonates, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you take the next step.
Hey! My name is Elena, I use she/her pronouns, and I work with rebels, rioters, and revolutionaries. My practice is one that centers and celebrates authenticity, courageous exploration, and a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. In practice, this can look like taking the time to build trust and connection, pulling from a wide variety of modalities, and curiosity and silliness when needed (which I believe is often!) I have seen many therapists feel the need to rush into “fixing”; in my work, there is no rush and there is no “fixing”. Together, we will sit in the messy experience of being human; exploring and learning from our pain while uplifting and celebrating the joys. We will co-create your therapy experience, making it into whatever you need it to be in order to feel as safe as possible. I bring an anti-oppression and decolonization lens to the work of therapy, as this helps to ensure that I do my best to mitigate the harmful impacts of these systemic issues in the healing space. I will certainly make mistakes. I hope you do, too! These are opportunities for both of us to practice collective learning, unlearning, and healing. I believe that therapy is community. We may share certain identities and there will be those we do not share, yet it remains a community. Let's be in joyous community together!
