Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Hi, I’m a queer-identified therapist who is passionate about creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and adolescents, as well as people in non-traditional relationships]. I believe therapy should be a place where all parts of you are welcome—without judgment, without assumptions, and without having to educate your therapist about your identity or lifestyle. I work with adults, teens, and couples navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship stress, trauma, and burnout. Whether you're exploring your identity, managing emotional overwhelm, or navigating complex relational dynamics, my goal is to support you with compassion and evidence-based care. I use an integrative approach to care, basead on your needs. In our work together, we’ll balance insight and self-exploration with skill-building and practical strategies, so you can feel more grounded, connected, and empowered in your daily life. My style is warm, collaborative, and deeply respectful of your lived experience.
I work with motivated clients on a variety of issues ranging from relationship challenges, adjusting to school, anxiety, and depression, to grief and loss, trauma, and complex family dynamics. I help clients learn to observe a wider range of variables that are contributing to problems and make meaningful behavioral changes. Anyone who is motived to find new solutions can benefit from this work, even in a short period of time.
You scroll through social media—past the highlights of trips, engagement announcements, and large friends/family gatherings—that familiar ache settles in your chest. You’ve been hurt, and it’s affected your ability to form healthy connections where you feel safe, seen, heard, and validated. Opening up—being vulnerable—feels like a struggle, and you know it’s keeping you stuck and alone. It’s not that you haven’t tried. You’ve been open, set boundaries, and “put yourself out there”. You’ve invested time, energy, and effort into making your relationships work. Yet you're feeling stuck, frustrated, wondering where I'm going wrong. I work with individuals in New York who want to break old relationship patterns and build connections that actually feel good. My warm, collaborative style blends solution-focused, psychodynamic, and person-centered approaches. I offer affirming care for LGBTQIA+ clients and those in non-traditional relationships. Healing from relationship pain takes courage and care—and you don’t have to do it alone. Whether you’re single, dating, in a situationship, or exploring polyamory, we’ll move forward with curiosity, not judgment. If you’re ready to stop repeating patterns and start building relationships that feel safe and supportive, I’d be honored to work with you.
In my practice, I routinely see students and young adults dealing with issues such as: -social anxiety and more generalized anxiety -feelings of depression or depression-like symptoms -struggling with procrastination or avoidance -relationship problems -experiencing difficult feelings due to social media -body image issues -trouble coping with family dynamics or family conflict -adjustment issues in college or post graduation when faced with the next steps of their life -creative individuals feeling stuck or insecure about their work. I provide LGBTQ affirmative counseling and practice both virtually and in my office in New York City. I also offer a free 15 min consultation to ensure we're a good fit!

Is it just me, or do a lot of these "bios" start to sound the same after a while? Finding a therapist online is difficult, which I know from personal experience. I am here to provide connections, help facilitate joy and offer a space for you to learn to express your needs and be supported. Our practice together will value your lived experiences as the primary material and will be co-created through empathy and open communication. These systems of mental health are not ones that want us to "feel better", thanks to capitalism and systemic racism. I want to offer a space to fight against that. I have experience working with "high-risk" (read, traumatized and hurt) people living with mental illnesses and difficult experiences. I am comfortable working with what is often labeled as the more "severe" diagnoses and I focus of finding the health in every individual. I am a New York State licensed creative arts therapist and a board certified dance/movement therapist. This helps me in finding creative and expressive ways to connect in therapy spaces for all different types of people. I believe we can all benefit from some extra support lately! Contact me for a free consult to see if working together will be a good fit.

Do you hide your feelings from yourself and others, even without intending to? Maybe certain emotions were discouraged or disallowed during your childhood. Maybe you have endured traumatic experiences that make some feelings seem dangerous. Maybe you have been impacted by systemic inequality or prejudice as a result of your identity. For these reasons and others, you may avoid noticing and expressing sadness, loneliness, or anger. Instead, you try to keep yourself busy, mask your pain with jokes and laughter, or rationalize that “it’s not so bad” or “others have it worse.” Rejecting these parts of yourself comes at a very steep cost. Efforts to defend against your feelings can result in depression, anxiety, emptiness, and many other symptoms. Most importantly, remaining hidden compromises relationships. After all, it is hard to connect meaningfully with others when you are disconnected from yourself. Slowing down to make contact with your true feelings is worth the effort. In therapy, we will work together to observe and name the ways in which you have been ignoring your inner experience. As you become aware of your defenses, you will learn to deploy them flexibly rather than automatically. You will grow to tolerate and maybe even appreciate the feelings that used to feel frightening or shameful. With time, you can come to understand yourself better and feel a sense of ease being you.

I believe that every individual can benefit from psychotherapy. In life, one will encounter hardship; psychotherapy offers a safe space for individuals to receive support without judgment or thinking they are beholden to someone. In my therapeutic work, I strive to help individuals face a variety of challenges, such as depression, grief, anxiety, life transitions, academic difficulties, gender and sexual identity concerns. I specialize in working with cancer patients and their families, LGBTQ+ and disabled folx, which is informed by my positionality as an Asian-American cisgender lesbian that is a caregiver to someone with metastatic cancer. My clients generally describe me as a psychotherapist who is thoughtful, empathic and warm in my communication style. I aim for a transparent and collaborative relationship with my clients. If it sounds like we would be a good fit, you can reach out to the clinic I work out of at 212-889-4042. The clinic Intake Coordinator will be happy to schedule a consultation. Our clinic operates on a sliding scale basis, so your fee will be adjusted based on your income. I will be in touch within 24-48 hours to set up a time for us to meet. You may want something different from your life, but you’re not sure what it is or how to go about getting it. You could have questions about relationships, career, or identity. Or perhaps you have been finding yourself overtaken by strong emotions at unexpected times. You need a space to talk, think, feel, and explore your world - both the parts that are acknowledged and also the parts that feel mysterious or shrouded. I see psychotherapy as a process of discovery. Through this process, you will have the opportunity to learn about yourself, including the parts of you that are hard to reach or difficult to know. I believe that a person cannot be fully defined in terms of a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. We are complex beings with unique temperaments and lived experiences, and we exist in a world of complex and sometimes oppressive systems. I see you first and foremost as an individual and acknowledge the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out therapy. I practice psychodynamic therapy through an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming lens. This work can allow you to have greater self-knowledge; to grow, and to consider and perhaps to make different decisions in your life. My approach is to bring curiosity, empathy, and insight to your current situation and to go from there.
"Our approach to therapy is holistic and client-centered. We integrate various therapeutic modalities including CBT, ACT, IFS, Somatic therapies, Mindfulness and more to meet the unique needs of each client. We believe in working collaboratively with our clients to set goals and create personalized treatment plans." -Mindful Mental Health Counseling and Wellness
