Life can be overwhelming. The challenges of living with social isolation, emotional pain, grief, anxiety and depression can prevent us from living the life we desire. The effects of trauma can be unbearable and intolerable and can affect both the individual and those around them. Low self esteem and destructive urges and behaviors deter from productive and satisfying lives. Together, we'll improve your ability to express your feelings, reflect on your reactions and behaviors, develop life skills and gain awareness that can lead you to a more effective and full-filling life. We specialize in individual therapy with adults who suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, medical diagnoses, racial conflict, life transitions, those who want to gain greater knowledge of self, and individuals who struggle with forming and maintaining relationships or boundaries. We have assisted both mxn and womxn work towards finding their sense of value while obtaining several ways to find healing. We are holistic trained therapists and an herbalist who works from a psychoanalytical lens that aids the process of further exploring, understanding, healing, and getting to the root of our problems. As a Haitian-American woman, I understand what it's like to be in an environment where mental health is not taken seriously. I pride myself on assisting adults to find a safe space to process their thoughts and life experiences. I have 7 years of clinical experience working with a diverse group of adults to build a stronger sense of self and confidence. Therapy is a journey. As the late Nipsey Hussle would say, "it's a marathon, not a race." However, in this regard, it's a marathon, a journey to greater awareness of self. As your therapist, I will respect your pace within the therapeutic alliance but I may also challenge you. I will support you and assist you in working towards changing your life narrative.
As a therapist, I take a collaborative and supportive approach with my clients. I work with students facing anxiety and depression—whether tied to academic pressures or other factors—as well as those managing chronic illnesses or disabilities. I also support students who are navigating relationship challenges with friends, family, or romantic partners, and those going through significant life transitions. College is a time of profound change, often sparking a desire to explore who we are—our past, our present, and the person we hope to become.
Every person is unique, each with their own narratives and perspectives. I subscribe to the belief that a new therapy is constructed for each person I work with. From the outset of treatment on through a process of self-discovery— challenging circumstances, past traumas, and negative belief structures lay the groundwork for seeds of strength and growth. All individuals possess the capacity to change their lives and I will work with you to process adversity and conflict into resilience and peace. I like to tailor my method to the person sitting across from me, though I do specialize in an approach which encompasses psychodynamic perspectives and behavioral techniques. These tend to help clients explore unconscious patterns and enactments while offering practical tools for immediate relief from issues such as anger, grief, depression, and anxiety. In treatment, I am a human first and a therapist second. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for you to explore the vulnerabilities which lie beneath anxious manifestations. I am warm, curious, direct, and I bring a sense of humor to discussions focused around how you see your multifaceted self in the myriad roles you inhabit.

My passion is helping people improve their relationships and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. I enjoy working with people who are curious about how they experience the world, and who are facing challenges with major life transitions, relationships, creativity, and gender/sexuality. My approach to treatment is warm and eclectic. Therapy is a space to be curious and challenge yourself without judgment. I hope to engage you in an exploratory process to get to the root of what has been troubling you. People often find themselves caught in longstanding, unconscious patterns that show up in many areas of their lives. By working together to identify what these patterns are and how they do or don't serve you, we can create more space in your life for freedom and choice to live as you desire. Good therapy is most of all about a good fit between you and your therapist. I believe you can best gauge our fit by meeting with me, and so I offer a free 15-minute consultation for you to get a feel for how I work, and to bring forth your questions and concerns. I look forward to getting started!
When you make the decision to attend therapy, you are making the decision to prioritize your wellbeing in a fundamentally unique way. Therapy is something that can be challenging, but also transformative– Especially for those who have not been listened to, believed, or had the freedom to pause and practice introspection due to the demands of life. Knowing the challenges of finding a therapist who can understand your life experiences, I prioritize working with communities with whom I share personal experience. This includes, but is not limited to: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, sex worker, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled communities. My work is grounded in Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as an essential part of the therapeutic process. I aim to minimize power dynamics in the room between therapist and client, and firmly believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than an authority in the room, I see my role as a collaborator in helping you achieve your therapy goals. For those who wish to know my social location: I am a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, polyamorous, non-binary therapist in my 30s. I come from a middle-class background in a mixed race household, am a US citizen, and was raised Catholic but am not religious. I approach therapy as a team effort grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, fat liberatory, sex & kink positive, and feminist ideals. My therapy practice is eclectic, borrowing from multiple modalities in order to find the best approach for each individual client, couple, or polycule. Common approaches I incorporate include: EFT (emotion focused therapy), IFS (internal family systems), Sex Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I work with clients on a variety of topics, but special interests include: Unpacking attachment wounds using IFS; Transition stages in Poly/ENM; Freedom from shame regarding sex & kink; Impacts of disability; Relationships to health, disordered eating, and/or fatness from a fat liberatory and body neutrality lens. If you are curious about working together, please email lowell@expressyourselftherapynyc.com to set up a free consultation.

Many of my clients are young adults, college students, graduate students, and working professionals who appear successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic stress, burnout, low motivation, self-doubt, or difficulty navigating life transitions. Together, we identify the patterns keeping them stuck, build practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and confidence in themselves and their future. I specialize in anxiety, depression, stress management, motivation, and self-esteem. Drawing from DBT, mindfulness-based practices, and Adlerian therapy, I help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical tools for everyday life. My goal as a therapist is to create a space where you can exhale, a place where you don’t have to hold everything together. Healing begins with compassion and connection, and real change happens when we feel understood without judgment. I don’t see my clients as diagnoses or problems to be fixed, but as whole people with complex stories.
College can feel overwhelming—you may be juggling classes, relationships, family expectations, and major life decisions all at once. You deserve support that helps you feel grounded, focused, and able to grow during this time. I take a strengths-based approach, recognizing the resilience and determination you already bring. As a parent who completed my degree while working full-time, I understand firsthand the challenges of balancing multiple roles. That experience shapes how I help students build boundaries, stay focused, and create sustainable strategies for success. I work best with students who want more than a space to vent. Together, we focus on practical tools, clearer direction, and meaningful change you can apply in daily life. I especially enjoy supporting working parents, adult learners, and first-generation college students navigating anxiety, cultural or family pressures, identity concerns, and relationship stress. As a bilingual (English/Spanish) LCSW with over 10 years of experience, I provide a supportive, structured space to help you feel more confident, connected, and empowered in college and beyond.

The Rust Wellness approach to therapy is tailoring each session to fit the needs of the client and consistently reevaluating to meet their evolving issues and concerns. Trust is incredibly important in a therapist-client relationship, so we aim to create an environment that will facilitate our clients’ comfort.
