As a licensed mental health counselor with eight years of experience, I specialize in emotion regulation and interpersonal challenges for children, adolescents, and adults. Whether you're struggling to name what you're feeling, finding it hard to communicate your emotions to the people around you, or simply looking for steadier ground, I'm here to help you work through it. Authenticity and tactfulness aren't opposites to me; they're the combination that makes real therapeutic work possible. You can expect me to be warm and supportive, and also direct. Together, we'll get to what matters. Authenticity is at the core of how I work. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), integrative, and person-centered techniques, I create a warm, safe, and supportive space where you can be straightforward about what you're struggling with and express your emotions in a healthy way — because that honesty is where real progress begins. From there, we work together to identify and address any parts of your stressors that are within your power to change and what may need to be accepted. Every person communicates and connects differently, so I tailor my approach to fit your unique needs, ensuring our work together feels relevant, grounded, and genuinely yours. My own experiences in therapy as a teenager sparked an early curiosity about psychology, one that I've been following ever since. That lived experience shaped my deep commitment to creating a warm, authentic space where patients feel genuinely seen and supported. I bring that history and intention into my work, staying mindful of how my own perspective informs my approach and ensuring it best serves you in every session we share. When I'm not in session, you'll find me hiking, painting, or singing. I have a wide-ranging taste in music and a genuine love for live performance art. These creative and outdoor pursuits keep me connected to the kind of presence and expression I also value in my work with you.
As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 10 years of experience, I help adults struggling with mental health challenges through compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based care. These challenges may include anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, emotional issues, life transitions, and psychiatric symptoms. Meeting each person with compassion, respect, and without judgment allows me to be a supportive and collaborative partner throughout your mental health journey. That's the kind of partnership I look forward to building with you, helping you better understand your needs, build on your strengths, and work toward meaningful, lasting improvements in your overall well-being. My approach is holistic and evidence-based, focusing not just on symptoms, but on your overall well-being, through a collaborative partnership where your voice and experiences guide a tailored treatment plan designed to help you regain stability and thrive. Working together, you can expect a supportive and nonjudgmental environment that uses psychoeducation, medication management, and supportive therapy to help you better understand your symptoms, build effective coping strategies, and feel more confident in your treatment decisions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and straightforward throughout your care, which is tailored to your unique needs, experiences, and treatment goals. My path to becoming a PMHNP began with more than a decade of working as a psychiatric nurse, caring for individuals across inpatient, emergency, community, and outpatient mental health settings. These experiences deepened my commitment to psychiatric care that considers the whole person, not just their symptoms. I bring this clinical experience, empathy, and a practical, collaborative perspective to each session with you in my practice now. Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants, listening to music, and finding time to relax and recharge.
Taking the first step toward a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage, and I'm here to walk that path with you. My work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) centers on adults facing stress, anxiety, relationship issues, career difficulties, depression, and life changes, with a particular focus on anxiety and relationship challenges. Every person deserves to be met with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and that belief shapes how I build our dialogue and treatment plan around your specific needs. My goal is to create a collaborative, warm, and nonjudgmental space where you feel like an equal partner in your own growth and change. From there, we'll work together to build your self-awareness, develop practical coping skills, and help you feel more confident navigating whatever life brings your way. I'm passionate about helping you recognize unhelpful thought and behavior patterns, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change with direct, empathetic, and collaborative care. My specialties include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused techniques for adults, in a supportive environment adapted to your unique needs, circumstances, and therapeutic goals to help you make meaningful changes in your life. My path to becoming a therapist began with being the person friends and family turned to while growing up. People naturally felt comfortable opening up to me, sharing their experiences, challenges, and emotions. Being there for others helped me recognize the importance of feeling heard, understood, and supported. These experiences helped me develop strong and meaningful connections with those around me and deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, supportive, and patient-centered care. Now, I bring genuine empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to build meaningful therapeutic connections to every session with you. I enjoy staying active through fitness, traveling and exploring new places, and spending quality time with friends and family. These hobbies allow me to maintain balance, stay connected with others, and make time for experiences that bring enjoyment and personal fulfillment.
I love meeting people, exploring how they define their goals, and then working together to achieve it. The beauty in being human is that we can have similar stories or feelings and yet still be so unique in our behavior and perception. I look forward to getting to know you so we can make long lasting positive changes. I have an eclectic client-centered approach where I utilize evidence-based treatments to help my clients experience relief, peace, and success. As we put the pieces of the puzzle together, it only encourages growth and insight. We all come to this point with a set of different experiences and genetic wiring. As we explore those experiences that influence who you are, we create an individualized treatment plan that empowers you to succeed. I offer a free phone consultation so that we can determine if we are a good fit to work together or refer you so as to find the best path for your goals.

I'm Dr. Joseph Yanni, a licensed psychologist and founder of Psychological Services of New York, P.C. I work with teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigating anxiety, ADHD, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, school and college stress, relationship concerns, family conflict, and life transitions. I believe effective therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, collaboration, and understanding. Every individual brings a unique set of experiences, strengths, and challenges, so I tailor treatment to meet each person's specific needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. My work is guided by the Yanni Integration Approach, an integrative model that draws from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered approaches, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. The goal is to provide practical, individualized care that helps clients better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, build effective coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. In addition to my own clinical work, I lead a team of dedicated mental health professionals at Psychological Services of New York, P.C. Together, we provide individualized therapy both in person at our offices in Scarsdale and Pleasantville, New York, and virtually throughout New York State.
At In Pursuit Of Progress Therapy, we envision the therapeutic process as: the unfolding of one’s story in connection with an entrusted professional; often with the desire to come to know oneself on a deeper level and/or to empower a person to make vital shifts in alignment with personal growth and self-acceptance There is something to be said of the fact that change happens when the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change. However, while our stories will undoubtedly include painful periods of grief, disillusionment, anguish and anxiety, the complex journey that is the human experience is made up of so much more than those difficult moments. Joy, elation, curiosity and wonder are also feelings that we may observe needing just as much help to navigate. Sparks of inspiration such as exploring core beliefs, building upon prior self-discovery or learning to create a sense of safety within can also be precursors to seeking therapy. In other words, each person’s journey is their own. Our practice’s story is built around meeting the needs of our clients. Your story is yours to tell. And it is your [courageous] choice to take that vulnerable first step towards finding someone you can begin to build trust with and open up to.
I believe therapy is a place where I can help facilitate your growth, where together we can help build a tool box that you can take with you into your life. I have a psychodynamic approach to treatment, mixing various interventions and modalities. I use an eclectic and integrative set of techniques in order to address the multiple ways in which we live in the world and experience our lives. Principles of equality, social justice, and rehabilitation drove me to the field of Social Work. But it is the incredibly rewarding experiences providing clinical services and advocacy for both adolescents and adults that has helped me to develop an incisive and expanded understanding of these principles. I am licensed (LCSW) by NY State to practice psychotherapy. I am a member of the National Association of Social Work. Whether it is your first time coming to therapy or you are interested in expanding your set of tools, therapy will offer a safe space to explore issues together. Please contact me for fee information. This site does not allow me to list pricing based on the type of appointment (Individual/Couples/Families).

I've also helped many people who feel uncomfortable in social situations and who struggle with procrastination and perfectionism.
I work with college and graduate students who experience anxiety, perfectionism, relationship issues, academic stress, life transitions, and self-esteem issues. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental and warm environment for therapy. I have particular experience working with people with religious trauma, which involves processing unhealthy patterns from high-control religious settings and coming into new ways of relating to oneself. I also work with people experiencing grief, anxiety and depression, as well as supporting people who just need to process everyday stressors. I'm deeply honored to come alongside people on their life's journey and support them through whatever they may be struggling with. I also believe that people, even when they are struggling with their mental health, are doing a lot to support themselves, and find great value in supporting and empowering people in our work together. My therapeutic style is eclectic, meaning I draw from multiple approaches and methodologies to best meet each patient's unique needs. While I maintain an eclectic approach, my work tends to lean into the psychodynamic approach, meaning I believe the past affects the present and that when we understand past relationships and patterns, we can better improve our present-day mental health. I also have particular experience with motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and the task-centered approach.
Life is not always easy. I’m here to support you through life’s challenges and obstacles with active and empathic listening, compassionate understanding, and assistance to build coping skills.
