Isabella Cuellar (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Isabella’s experiences as a special education teacher and outpatient psychiatric medical assistant drove her interest in trauma-informed counseling, advocating for client needs, and the importance of a multicultural approach to counseling. As a therapist, she values building trusting relationships with all clients and creating a supportive, non-judgemental therapeutic environment where individuals feel nurtured. Isabella integrates different styles of therapy to cultivate change within her clients, including a psychodynamic approach and evidence-based practices like dialectical behavioral therapy. College and the years around it can be a lot, academic pressure, anxiety, relationships, identity, and sometimes experiences that are genuinely hard to carry alone. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who helps students and young adults find steadier ground. I specialize in trauma and have worked directly with college students, including those facing prejudice on campus and communities navigating crisis. My style is warm and judgment-free, and I use evidence-based tools including CBT, DBT, and EMDR alongside trauma-informed care and skills for building safety, so you leave sessions with more than just a place to vent. Telehealth makes it easy to fit therapy around a packed schedule. If you're ready, I'd love to help.

Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you’re always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don’t always understand your reactions. Let’s work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish! I provide virtual therapy to clients located in New York, Florida, and internationally.

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, depressed? Would you like and to make the best decisions for yourself? Do you need to prioritize your obligations and responsibilities? Are you worrying about everything—in the present and future? Are you struggling with your mental health, education, career, relationships, social circles? Do you need someone to help you create true, lasting change? Being a emerging adult is an exciting time that can be filled with possibilities for adventure, growth and exploration. At the same time, it can bring a sense of confusion and feeling overwhelmed about who you are, what you want and how to get there. Maybe there are obstacles, new or old, that get in the way of making progress. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), younger adults today face more stress than any other previous generation. Your concerns are unique from those of your parents, making a tailored, custom approach to therapy most beneficial. I provide such an approach. Emerging adulthood is the perfect time to discover new strategies to better manage your life so that you can become your best self and have the future that you want.

You don't have to figure it all out on your own! Students I work with are empathic and intelligent and are feeling pain about their personal lives and the world at large. They have difficulty asking for help as they are often the person others turn to for assistance. Distress can show up as failing classes, procrastination, insomnia, sadness, lack of focus, irritability, anxiety and feelings of hopelessness about the future. In our work together, we will identify sources of distress, resolve conflicts that are holding you stuck, and learn, practice and integrate coping strategies. We will tap into inner resources--including intuition, humor, beauty and resilience--to access healing and joy. Our work will enable you to become more grounded, self-aware, confident, and self-directed. I studied English and Environmental Studies at SUNY Albany and Williams College. I received my Masters in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University and my Masters in Social Work from New York University. My professional experience includes over 15 years working in academia, including serving as the director of a university women's and gender resource center, adjunct professor and academic advisor, in addition to my work as a psychotherapist. I am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America and am a climate-aware and trauma-informed therapist. Many of my current clients are dealing with trauma and social anxiety. They often feel isolated and struggle with initiating and building healthy connections and friendships with others. Therapy can help you uncover choices and social skills you may not even be able to imagine now. My studies in creative arts therapies, mythology, Tarot, dreams and archetypes help you see your life stories with fresh perspective and flexibility. Students who work best with me approach therapy as partnering with a warm, compassionate, knowledgeable guide who can help them access intuitive, academic, physical and practical resources. We weave together a unique net of strategies that you can tap into as needed for coping with obstacles and stressors in your life.

I'm so glad you've started this journey to improve your mental wellbeing. I know how difficult beginnings can be—I’ve worked with a number of first-time and returning therapy clients from backgrounds as diverse as New York City itself. I particularly enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ clients and people with disabilities and neurodivergences. I do my best to honor your cultural experience as we tackle some of life’s biggest challenges together: depression and anxiety, trauma and grief, chronic illness and medical issues, relationship difficulties and life transitions, and problematic drug use or other behaviors that may no longer be serving you. My own career began in worker organizing, then moved into community social work and social policy research. I have a deep appreciation for how relationships and social realities impact mental health and prioritize a relational and social change-oriented approach. Disability justice, racial justice, and gender justice are core tenets of my practice. My work is also influenced by my own experiences as a therapy client: I strive to be as transparent as possible about what we’re doing and why, so you can be a full partner on the journey and never feel left in the dark. Above all, I am person-centered: I start by learning who you are as an individual, your strengths and challenges, and then figure out which clinical approaches can work best for you. I often draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and am pursuing further training in these modalities. I very much look forward to meeting you and taking this journey together!

I work with neurodivergent adults experiencing burnout from overfunctioning and masking. Many of my clients manage competing responsibilities while coping with anxiety, depression, relational conflict, and the lasting impact of trauma. Many are BIPOC adults from immigrant communities exploring intersecting identities and cultural expectations. I offer therapy in English and Spanish and strive to create a supportive, culturally responsive space where clients feel understood. Together, we focus on developing practical strategies to support meaningful change that can be sustained long after therapy ends.

I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I will be getting credentialed with additional insurances and accepting private pay-please feel free to check back or reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.

I have 7 years of clinical experience working with a diverse group of adults to build a stronger sense of self and confidence. Therapy is a journey. I specialize in supporting young adults and college students struggling with trauma, C-PTSD, interpersonal concerns, and anxiety. I find having a deep understanding of your own story helps you to feel more secure in your identity, equipped to face your challenges, and grounded in your life. Getting to know your story in all its messy, beautiful, and complicated parts is where our therapeutic relationship will begin. I utilize an integrative approach to counseling using Internal Family Systems Theory (IFS), Person-Centered, Realtional, Psychodynamic, & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Based on how our relationship develops, I will pull from these theories to best support our work together depending on your needs. Through these modalities, we can help you stand authentically in your story, in all of its parts, and feel empowered in continuing it. Sharing your life with a stranger can feel vulnerable, risky, and uncertain. My goal is to help you feel, heard, seen, and empowered in the counseling space so that I can meet you where you are and help you attain your goals.
