Hi! I’m Julia Taub, the owner and lead therapist at Julia Taub Therapy. I am a New York-based psychotherapist who specializes in helping high-achieving young women navigate everyday challenges and major life changes. Helping women as they transition into and throughout college is a particular area of focus for me and my practice. We utilize a modern approach to psychotherapy that integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic techniques to help clients tap into their inner strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. We work with clients facing a range of concerns, including interpersonal and romantic relationship issues, school stress, career exploration, general dissatisfaction, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem challenges. We understand how difficult these years can be and what an important outlet therapy can provide to help you live your best life! We look forward to working together!
You do not need to be fixed. Your feelings are valid. It will get better. You will not always feel this way. And if you don’t believe this, I am here to support you through your darkest, most difficult times. As a licensed psychologist, I can be the listening ear and objective, kind voice. To help you process trauma, depression, and anxiety. Explain and discover why you emotionally eat or spend money, restrict food or control things in your life. Learn to reduce feeling overwhelmed or scattered. I can help you find your way and guide you to where you want to be.
I work with adults and teens experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma. Therapy is a space where you can develop insight into how you became the person you are, while learning to have more compassion for yourself. You can explore how to cope with life's challenges in a way that feels healthy and practical. So many of us are carrying heavy emotional burdens which impact how we show up in the world, for our families, and for ourselves. We often feel alone with our feelings, stuck in a place of shame, unsure of how to heal and move forward. I believe we are greatly influenced by our early experiences with our families and caregivers. How did those experiences mold you into who you are, and how might they be holding you back? Changing your relationship with yourself is integral to living the life you want. My work also includes helping clients to look at how their thoughts impact mood and behavior. I enjoy integrating mindfulness practices and other strategies so that clients gain practical strategies to deal with the inevitable challenges we all face. Let's move from a place of self-blame to a place of acceptance and healing. Please reach out today.
The decision to seek psychotherapy is a life-changing choice. Whether you are seeking therapy to address a specific concern or simply to engage in a personal exploration, the therapeutic process can help increase self-awareness, process trauma, improve your relationships with others and with yourself, identify healthier coping skills, and improve your overall well-being. I want to hear your story and help you live the life you want for yourself. I take a holistic, person-centered approach considering all aspects - mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual - when caring for my patients. My style is warm, interactive and collaborative and I strive to provide a compassionate, supportive environment where healing and growth can take place. Choosing a therapist is a personal decision and one to be considered with great care. I invite you to call me for an initial phone consultation to determine whether working with me feels like a good match.
Okay, let me guess — life feels like a lot right now. You’re overwhelmed, drained, and stuck in patterns that just aren’t working anymore. Maybe you’re questioning your relationships, struggling at work, or wondering why you feel so disconnected. That glass of whiskey, wine, or weed isn’t helping like it used to. With nearly 20 years of experience, I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you process difficult emotions, release what’s weighing you down, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll create a path toward feeling more grounded and at peace. I help people work through anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and feeling emotionally drained. ART helps resolve distressing memories quickly, while IFS helps you understand and care for the parts of yourself that feel stuck or overwhelmed. My approach is compassionate and direct — focused on helping you feel more grounded and in control of your life. You don’t have to figure it out alone. While you might not feel it right now, you know you’re ready for change. I’d be honored to support you as you take the first step toward relief and clarity. I’m out-of-network with insurance, but we can explore ways to make it work. You’re worth the effort — reach out when you’re ready.

Have you been feeling lost or stuck? Feeling disconnected with yourself? Or feeling alone in the challenges you are facing? I believe that everyone is doing the best they can with what they have; that we are shaped by the tools we have adopted or have learned throughout our lives. However, these tools aren’t always enough, or don’t serve us in the ways we truly need. Many of our emotional challenges or struggles come from pieces of ourselves that are hurt or misunderstood. While these experiences can feel isolating, this is not a journey you have to approach alone. I work with clients to help them explore their identities, develop self-compassion, process trauma, and learn more effective ways to identify and manage their emotions. Through a mix of counseling modalities, we will work together to help you heal and feel better equipped to handle both current challenges and those you may face in the future. As someone who's been on the "other side of the couch", I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating; not knowing if things are going to "get better" can be scary. However, therapy is not always about just moving forward, but rather sometimes visiting the past or sitting in the present so that you can grow and feel more prepared for the future.
It's OK that you're here. Read that again. You are taking the very first step on your healing journey and finding the right therapist can be an overwhelming task. I am here to make it easier for you and share what I value in a therapeutic relationship. I take pride in my natural instinct to empathize and understand an individual's struggles. I value connection and our relationship. I do not expect anyone to feel comfortable opening up to me without first building our rapport together. Above all, I strive to convey an open, safe, and non-judgmental space for each and every person.
My therapeutic style is based on the belief that good rapport is essential to accomplish our therapeutic goals. While I think in terms of family of origin issues, I intervene through many diverse approaches depending on the needs of the person. These approaches include thoughts, bodily sensations, feelings, and the experiences of childhood. I follow the lead of whom I am working with and tailor my psychotherapeutic work to fit where they are at in their psychological development. A primary focus is to help one become at ease with oneself. I enjoy working with a wide variety of people and issues. On any given day, I might see a woman with career issues, a man with emotional intimacy concerns, a couple with communication difficulties and a child with angry outbursts. I find meaning fostering change and growth. I am informed by positive psychology theory with its emphasis on growth, development, enhancement of authenticity, optimal performance and happiness. Implementing the concepts of "Flow", character strengths, resilience, optimism and gratitude. I am committed to you feeling fulfilled, present in your life and accomplishing your goals.
Are you feeling stuck, disconnected, or not like yourself? Whether you are dealing with academic stressors, social stressors, depression or anxiety you are not alone and my goal is to create a safe and healing space for you. I provide trauma informed care and use different approaches including mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I work with people who long to feel more at home with themselves and in their lives. My clients are curious, self-reflective and have experienced things that leave them feeling hurt, fearful and alone. During sessions we may encounter powerful gates of self-discovery like grief, anger, and shame. Together we get to know these parts of you, approach them with kindness, release painful stories and make meaning. Clients leave sessions feeling closer to themselves, able to move through their lives with clarity and presence. My approach weaves multiple therapeutic approaches within and beyond traditional psychotherapy. I’m trained in IFS and EMDR, and incorporate mindfulness and somatic practices into sessions. I offer reiki, a form of energy healing, to support regulation and rest. I'm also a student of tarot and astrology, and can include these perspectives in the work. I welcome all parts of you to this work. To learn more about me and to see if we are a good match for doing this work together, email me to schedule a free 15 minute consultation call.
