Therapy with Emilee
College can be a lot, especially if you're the friend everyone comes to, the student who can't turn in anything less than perfect or the daughter who's still managing everyone's feelings from a few states away. I work with college women who are people-pleasers, overthinkers & big feelers: students dealing with anxiety, roommate & relationship stress, family pressure, or questions about faith & who they are outside the way they were raised. Together we'll figure out where the urge to keep everyone happy comes from, practice saying no without a three-paragraph apology & make room for what YOU actually want. When it fits, I also use EMDR to help with painful memories that keep showing up. Sessions are online, so you can meet with me from your dorm, apartment or car between classes.

I am a queer trans non-binary therapist and expressive arts therapist. My focus is providing individual therapy for LGBTQIA+ adults, women, and non-monogamous and polyamorous people. I specialize in working with trans and non-binary folks and people navigating relationships, building confidence, or wanting to engage the arts as part of therapy. I strive to create an environment where you can be yourself, feel comfortable exploring your experience and taking risks, and take steps towards what’s important to you. I am social justice oriented, neurodiversity-affirming, and work from a trauma-informed perspective. I am able to see clients in both Washington and Texas, and practice under the supervision of Candice Holloway, LPC-S and Breona Mendoza, LMHC. As expressive arts therapist, I often bring play and creative expression into therapy. This could include anything from creating a D&D character who represents part of your experience, to making a music playlist, to integrating visual art, movement, music, writing, or role-playing into our work. As a therapist, I am warm, engaged, and curious. You deserve a therapist that gets you – it’s important to me to take time to get to know you. I cheer you on and see myself as a facilitator and collaborator as you work towards your goals. As a human, I love camping, attending queer and sex-positive events, finding dogs, and trying new gluten free recipes.

You can do hard things, but you're tired, or wondering if things have to be this hard. You take care of yourself, but you still feel lonely or worried. People on the outside might say you're crushing it, but on the inside, sometimes you feel you're being crushed. You have big questions for which there may be no answers. I live in the same world you do, with its profound beauty and heartbreaking flaws. I strive to connect with my clients authentically, and sit with them as we contemplate difficult questions. If you are looking for a warm and collaborative space to process your emotions and maybe get some podcast recommendations along the way, we might be a good fit. Oh, and if the phrase “Highly Sensitive Person” means something to you (or feels like it should), I’ve got you. My clinical expertise is with the young adult population, having spent a decade working in institutions of higher education. My private practice clients are typically in the 18-40ish age range. At this time, my practice is fully online via HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing. Please note, this modality is not suitable for everyone.

We are not biologically wired to cope with life alone. Even if we are not "alone" sometimes the ones we love lack the ability to fully support or understand us. Even if they may be a solid part of our support system. This is where therapy comes in. I specialize in guiding individuals through the intricate terrain of strong emotions. I have completed extensive training and research on healing strategies targeted for those trying to heal from adverse life experiences, trauma, ptsd, c-ptsd (attatchment/early childhood wounds) anxiety, depression, anger, and borderline personality disorder. **Treatment Modalities:** I am trained in EMDR, designed to reduce emotional distress due to traumatic life experiences. I also have special training in its use for helping those with borderline personality disorder and early childhood wounds, and anxiety-related issues. EMDR is considered a first-line treatment for trauma and has been shown to reduce emotional distress and accelerate the healing process. In addition, I use cognitive processing therapy (CPT), which has similar aims through different treatment techniques. Somatic (mind-body) techniques are also incorporated throughout the treatment process. We can talk about what will be the best fit for you. I also incorporate dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills for emotion regulation to tackle issues such as anxiety, depression, and anger. My clients will have take-home strategies that they can use outside of therapy. If you think we would be a good fit, I can be reached by call, text, or email.

With a focus on evidence-based practices and cultural humility, I aim to provide care that respects each client’s background and individual preferences. This includes comprehensive assessment where I gather information about the client’s background – medical, mental health, social and current concerns etc. This initial session allows me to understand the individual’s unique situation and start building rapport. After assessing their needs, I collaborate closely with the client to establish treatment goals and create a tailored plan that may include therapy, medication management, or a combination of both. Throughout our work together, I maintain an ongoing dialogue to monitor progress, adjust treatment strategies as needed, and ensure the client feels supported and empowered. I believe in holistic, collaborative approach that includes open communication, transparency, and a commitment to fostering a positive therapeutic relationship.
