If you need mental health support, you shouldn’t have to worry about your therapist judging you or making you feel uncomfortable. You are the expert in who you are, and I do my best to learn from my clients and provide a safe space to address whatever you’re going through. I frequently use cognitive behavioral, insight oriented, and emotions focused interventions within session. I’m also trained and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is frequently used to address trauma but is also helpful in reducing the distress experienced around any negative thought and replacing it with a healthier/adaptive thought. I appreciate that I can’t be a good fit for everyone, so I welcome consultation calls to explore if my approach to counseling would be supportive to what you’re looking for within therapy.
Greetings! I love counseling and incorporating mind-body interventions to assist clients in rediscovering strengths and aligning their mind, body, and energy. I have spent my career working in education and mental health, and I enjoy sharing what I have learned to empower and support my clients.

Therapy is an individual process, each session is it's own experience. I feel that you guide this process and I hope to guide you on your journey into understanding yourself and your experience.
Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer, activists, neurodivergent, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story. We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, or the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard. From there, we look deeper at the patterns, relationships, and stories that shaped how you move through the world. We explore what matters to you at your own pace. Our work together isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's about understanding what has happened to you, how you've adapted, and finding out what is possible when we have more awareness and more options. My approach is a deeply relational one. You're the expert on your own life and I'm here to serve as a supporter and collaborator in the process.
My practice is here to support those who need someone to talk, by being someone who will listen and can offer some help. It is a safe place to process and discuss your challenges, and to learn more about taking care of your mental health. Most often I am helping clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and just the difficulty of adjusting to life's stressors. Adjusting to the college experience, and the transition from college to the real world can be tough. I have found that clients have done well through these times when supported with process, education, skill building, and reflection. If you are interested please reach out. I offer free 15 minute consultations for all new clients who are interested. Currently I am accepting Self Pay, Highmark Plans, Blue Cross plans, Aetna, and Optum.

Hi, I’m Marlena. Being a college student can feel like a nonstop mix of pressure, expectations, and “why am I like this?” moments. I work with students who feel anxious, overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck—especially when school, relationships, and life transitions start piling up all at once. My style is warm, collaborative, and very real. I focus on helping you understand what’s actually going on in your mind and body (hello, nervous system), so you can learn tools that help you feel more grounded, regulated, and in control—not just during sessions, but in your day-to-day life. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start therapy. If you’re looking for a space that feels supportive, nonjudgmental, and practical, I’d love to work with you.

I offer client-centered treatment options that are determined collaboratively between us. I value all people and work to be culturally sensitive and aim for cultural humility when working with someone whose identity is different from my own. I will always seek out information on my own to fill in gaps of general knowledge, but will look to you to share your own personal experiences and beliefs that may or may not follow the general norms of any given cultural identity. My clients often struggle with depression and anxiety which have systemic and/or family-based roots, and my job is to facilitate a process to help you develop self-understanding and self-knowledge to make choices that are right for you.
