Therapists for college students near New York, NY
At In Pursuit Of Progress Therapy, we envision the therapeutic process as: the unfolding of one’s story in connection with an entrusted professional; often with the desire to come to know oneself on a deeper level and/or to empower a person to make vital shifts in alignment with personal growth and self-acceptance There is something to be said of the fact that change happens when the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change. However, while our stories will undoubtedly include painful periods of grief, disillusionment, anguish and anxiety, the complex journey that is the human experience is made up of so much more than those difficult moments. Joy, elation, curiosity and wonder are also feelings that we may observe needing just as much help to navigate. Sparks of inspiration such as exploring core beliefs, building upon prior self-discovery or learning to create a sense of safety within can also be precursors to seeking therapy. In other words, each person’s journey is their own. Our practice’s story is built around meeting the needs of our clients. Your story is yours to tell. And it is your [courageous] choice to take that vulnerable first step towards finding someone you can begin to build trust with and open up to.

Following her undergraduate studies, she played professional soccer for the New York Power and then worked in the financial and pharmaceutical industries for nearly a decade. Jennifer views her work as a therapist as a privilege, and she finds incredible joy in this role. Hi, I am Marline, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience working with Individuals from all walks of life. I understand that too often in life, we can feel isolated from our friends and family due to fear that they may judge our situations or decisions. This is where having a therapist can help. I can provide a nonjudgemental space for you to explore difficult or uncomfortable situations. I believe that we are all unique and there is no one size fit all technique thus one of my first steps is to hear your story, so that we can work together to formulate a plan, which truly works for you.
My name is Dr. Suzanna Mila Chen. I am a Board-Certified M.D. psychiatrist and I run a private boutique practice in NY. My specialties are psychodynamic and CBT psychotherapy. I can also provide medication management to supplement psychotherapy only IF and WHEN it is appropriate and medically necessary. Through a holistic approach I also incorporate lifestyle changes and can add evidence-based supplements when needed. I have experience providing counseling to undergraduate and graduate students at Fordham University Lincoln Center, and providing therapy and at times medications for Albert Einstein College of Medicine students. I have a special interest in building confidence, reducing anxiety, improving work-life balance, addressing pathological perfectionism, addressing people-pleasing, supporting high-achieving students and professionals in their goals, healing emotional wounds from narcissistic parents and dysfunctional family dynamics in general, maneuvering relationships (including interracial and intercultural relationships), and navigating culture and identity. I also have further training in perinatal mental health from PSI. Please note that I do not take in-network for medication management only (ie without therapy).

My practice centers on creating a safe and nurturing space for you to explore what is going on with you; your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, desires, strengths, and challenges. Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. It usually means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time. I work with college students and young adults who are trying to keep up on the outside while feeling stressed, burned out, or unsure of themselves on the inside. Therapy with me is practical, supportive, and focused on helping you understand what’s actually driving your anxiety, overthinking, or self-doubt, and what to do about it in real life. Sessions are a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and build tools you can use outside of therapy. You don’t need to have the right words, a clear goal, or a crisis to start. We take things at your pace and figure it out together. If you’re curious about therapy but not sure it’s for you, a consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit.

Hello! I am Dr. Janice Delgado. I offer online therapy to college students and young adults that are looking to find meaning and connection or improve their relationship with themselves and others. I have specific training and several years of experience working in college counseling centers. I work through a Client-Centered and Trauma-Informed lens to help my clients understand the relationship between their life experiences and worldview with their current struggles. My goal is to help you find new ways to perceive old situations and create a bridge toward resilience. Therapy may be a good space for you to figure out which obstacles are keeping you from becoming the best version of yourself. I assist clients in navigating depression, stress, life transitions, relationship distress, trauma and struggles related to their life stage. I can help you gain confidence, develop self-understanding and learn strategies to manage distress. I believe in the importance of creating safe spaces and meaningful relationships for growth. You can expect a warm, judgement-free space when meeting with me.
I work with LGBTQ+ folks and anyone navigating trauma, OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, or big life transitions... like college students who are panic googling "what am I doing with my life??" at 2am. If you want to make sense of it all without judgment, basic "talk therapy," or silent nods behind a clipboard and want a therapist who keeps things chill, real, and sometimes even funny - I'm your girl. Whether you're spiraling over every “what if,” feeling stuck in patterns that stem from the past, or feeling like you’re losing your mind trying to figure out who you are & where you’re going, we'll work through this together.
I'm so glad you've started this journey to improve your mental wellbeing. I know how difficult beginnings can be—I’ve worked with a number of first-time and returning therapy clients from backgrounds as diverse as New York City itself. I particularly enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ clients and people with disabilities and neurodivergences. I do my best to honor your cultural experience as we tackle some of life’s biggest challenges together: depression and anxiety, trauma and grief, chronic illness and medical issues, relationship difficulties and life transitions, and problematic drug use or other behaviors that may no longer be serving you. My own career began in worker organizing, then moved into community social work and social policy research. I have a deep appreciation for how relationships and social realities impact mental health and prioritize a relational and social change-oriented approach. Disability justice, racial justice, and gender justice are core tenets of my practice. My work is also influenced by my own experiences as a therapy client: I strive to be as transparent as possible about what we’re doing and why, so you can be a full partner on the journey and never feel left in the dark. Above all, I am person-centered: I start by learning who you are as an individual, your strengths and challenges, and then figure out which clinical approaches can work best for you. I often draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and am pursuing further training in these modalities. I very much look forward to meeting you and taking this journey together!

I have worked with clients on a wide breadth of concerns, including (but not limited to): anxiety, depression, career concerns, relationship concerns, family of origin concerns, identity exploration/development, & interpersonal concerns. I have experience working with undergraduate & graduate students, adults, and other mental health providers. **I am in-network with Aetna (NY, MD, & VA) and Anthem (NY).** I am an out-of-network provider for all other insurances. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance often will cover a large percentage of the session fee.
