Maybe you are trying to understand your pain, and what you can do about it. Sometimes you might feel empty and numb, or you might feel flooded with overwhelming and difficult feelings. You may have tried to make changes, but you see the same problems coming up again and again in your relationships. Maybe you long to find a sense of meaning, and to feel fully alive. Healing will mean challenging yourself to sit with painful feelings and face your fears. It will be helpful for you to find a safe place to do this hard work. Together, we can make your recovery and growth a priority. I like to work with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, emotional concerns, or relationship difficulties. I am committed to providing warmth, support, and challenge to build deep collaborative relationships that yield lasting results. Your struggles, experiences, and feelings are real. They deserve space, attention, and care. I am glad you are looking for help. I have extensive experience working with individuals navigating addiction and recovery, depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and stress. I also incorporate DBT-informed coping skills—particularly mindfulness—which I’ve found to be powerful tools in both clinical work and everyday life. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you. I typically structure sessions around one or two main areas to help keep our work focused and meaningful. Treatment planning is a collaborative process, and I strive to make sure it aligns with your unique needs and goals. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and taking that first step is a brave decision. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can be heard, understood, and empowered. I believe in a patient-centered approach—working collaboratively to understand your goals, meet you where you are, and support you at your pace. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin, I’d be honored to support you. Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Hi there! I provide a warm yet challenging relationship to support you in becoming stronger, calmer, and more clear about who you are. I use mindfulness, body awareness, and curiosity to help you develop lifelong skills.
🌟 Embodied Hope For Your Journey to Healing and Growth 🌟 Dealing with trauma can be really tough, whether it's from a specific event or something that's been with you for a long time. It can affect so many parts of your life, from your mental health to your relationships to your sleep. Doing it all while keeping up with classes? That's exhausting. It helps to have someone who knows trauma work and can support you while you gauge how to pace your healing process. I provide therapy for many different types of trauma: emotional neglect, abuse, combat, complex PTSD, intimate partner violence, sexual assault/harassment, bullying, accidents, medical illness, pregnancy/birth, and toxic relationships. I'm experienced in gold standard therapies for trauma, nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, and OCD. It's important to me to help people to understand and work with - not in spite of - their nervous system. I've been through a lot of different experiences in my career, working in hospital and outpatient settings. Real progress comes from having a place where our nervous system can gradually rebuild a sense of safety, grow in flexibility, and practice new learning. My goal is to make therapy that kind of a place. I believe in using therapy strategies that are proven to be effective, but that doesn't mean sessions have to be rigid or boring. Depending on the client, I'll pull in painting, novels and movies, music, Minecraft, sports, and comedians. I'm also always learning and growing as a therapist to make sure you're getting the best care possible. Although therapy progress isn't always a straight line, learning new skills and ways of thinking almost always has ups and downs. That's completely normal. It's totally understandable if you wish you could feel better right away. I'll do my best to create a fluid plan, tailored just for you, to help you head in that direction. You don't have to be alone. Someone I value once told me that sometimes we carry hope for others until they're ready to pick it back up themselves. Let me know if you'd like to talk about what that might look like for you to be ready to carry your own hope again.
Whether you are struggling with past or recent trauma, anger, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, relationship concerns or marital issues, it is important that you know you do not have to be alone in this journey. You deserve someone who will listen intently, understand fully, and provide an open, supportive, and non-judgmental space to rebuild through. No problem is too great to overcome if you are willing to do the work. Therapy helps you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, become free of old patterns, or simply find ways to process pain or memories that have kept you feeling stuck. It is a healing process that allows you to not only start feeling better but gain insight, awareness, and ultimately begin trusting your intuition and experience. Relationships are as capable of hurt and pain as they are for healing. At Clear Direction Psychological Services, you will learn with the support, expertise, knowledge and guidance of your psychologist how to better relate to and understand your experiences, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships, and challenges. You will learn how to regulate the full spectrum of emotions, find balance in your life, and create meaningful, loving and supportive relationships with yourself and others. You will learn how to make healthier and wiser choices and find fulfillment in your day-to-day living. Clear Direction Psychological Services is a small, specialty practice located on Long Island, New York. Dr. Smyth is a dedicated psychologist whose work is much more than "a job." Those who enter are cared for like family; psychotherapy is Dr. Smyth’s passion, craft, and life's work. Dr. Smyth understands no two individuals are the same. She will work with you to understand the root cause of your struggles and address those issues with long-lasting strategies, helping you get closer to the life you have always wanted. Dr. Smyth has the experience to help you achieve your goals, overcome struggles, and learn to live a life in line with your core values. She is an active psychologist whose work is aimed at providing growth, relief, and healing for those that enter her practice. It takes great courage to ask for help, and that is where change begins. You deserve to have a more fulfilling and meaningful life and Dr. Smyth is dedicated to helping you. She looks forward to getting to know you, understanding your unique challenges, and meeting you exactly where you are. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have, especially if this is your first glance at therapy. There is no such thing as a bad question and no shame in looking for help.
I am a body-centered psychotherapist who specializes in working with Queer and Trans folks as well as folks with trauma, and traumatic upbringing. Our work together will be relational, experiential & holistic. I want to know your lived experience, help deepen the connection between your mind & body, develop insight and awareness around patterns of thought and behavior that no longer serve you. We will cultivate compassion & presence, and tune in to your needs and desires to support your overall wellness. We will consider impact of oppressed identities, larger systemic dynamics and how they interact with your experience of yourself in the world. I believe in your capacity to heal.

I realize that the decision to start therapy is not an easy one. Being in therapy is both a challenging and rewarding experience that can help you achieve life goals and help you reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. I consider it a privilege to work as a psychologist and to be a part of my clients’ lives. Prior to opening my private practice, I worked in a college counseling center for 6 years. I thoroughly enjoy meeting with college students and helping them navigate the challenges they are facing. Feel free to contact me by phone or email if you would like to set up a first appointment or learn more about my practice.
