Hi, I’m Liz! I’m a Licensed therapist (LCSW) and Certified Clinical Sports Social Worker - and founder of MENTL.SESH. I help people accomplish their goals, reconnect with their sense of self, boost confidence, and improve mental fitness by meeting them where they are at in their mental health journeys. Working with athletes, high performers and creatives to manage anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and challenging life situations are my areas of specialty. Therapy should feel fulfilling and the last thing I want for my clients is for therapy to feel like a chore. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for working toward and achieving therapeutic goals, so I encourage you to feel all the feels, speak your mind, and be yourself in sessions. Therapy with me is a collaborative process and I want any clients who work with me to feel that they are heard and supported. Throughout the therapy process, we will explore both the highs and lows, whether that be through identifying thought patterns, behavioral patterns, current and past experiences, or self-care and coping skills. I'm a firm believer that healing is not linear and acknowledging the good is equally important to living your best life. I aim to have a down-to-earth, strengths-based & integrative approach and will most definitely throw in a few sports and pop culture references, thinking outside of the box, and use humor when appropriate. I received my Master’s in Social Work degree from NYU and have advanced training in, Sports Social Work interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Trauma Focused -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, trauma-informed practice, Functional Family therapy, and more.
Life can feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming, especially when you are dealing with anxiety, low mood, stress, or big life changes. I offer a supportive space to slow down, talk things through, and start feeling more steady again. Care is personalized, collaborative, and grounded in respect for your experience. My work centers on psychiatric care that combines conversation, practical therapy tools, and medication management, so our visits support both how you’re feeling and how you function in everyday life. My practice focuses on psychiatric care that includes both medication management and therapy-informed support, so our work together always addresses treatment and conversation in the same space. For psychotherapy, I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, adjustment challenges, and major life transitions, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to build practical skills, clarity, and confidence. For medication management, I treat a variety of conditions including depression, anxiety, mood changes, trauma, OCD, bipolar disorder, sleep problems, and many other concerns. My approach combines traditional psychiatric treatments with holistic practices such as mindfulness and emotional well-being techniques, fostering balance and resilience while treating the whole person. You don’t have to have everything figured out to get started. This is simply a place to feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward feeling more like yourself again.

I am a clinical psychologist and have been in practice for over 20 years. I specialize in working with individuals and couples ages 18 years and older. I address a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship/family dynamics and trauma, as well as stressors particular to the college and graduate school experience. My Interest in psychology is based in my wish to help people decrease their pain and expand their lives in ways that are important to them. I am described by my patients as a warm person who creates a safe environment through being respectful and sensitive to who you are: your personality, family, developmental and cultural history, other identities and the emotions you are experiencing. Psychodynamic and insight-oriented, I utilize a variety of techniques, especially Internal Family Systems (IFS), a therapeutic approach that is extremely effective for many issues and is known to be especially helpful with trauma recovery. IFS helps individuals, as well as couples, tease apart and learn about conflicting feelings or parts of themselves. Doing so improves one’s ability to feel better, function effectively and heal painful experiences from the recent and distant past. In couples work I also utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based model that helps couples identify difficult cycles of interactions and recognize the needs, hurts and fears that underlie them. Partners emerge from this process feeling more connected with one another in meaningful, supportive and secure ways and are better able to communicate. Research has proven this to be a highly effective form of therapy. I have held positions at several university counseling centers including Fordham University where I was Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, The Graduate Center in New York City and Princeton University. College and graduate students have always been a significant part of my practice.
With over 25 years of clinical practice as a psychotherapist, I bring an interactive, supportive, and non-judgemental approach to counseling. Sessions are dedicated to understanding where you are in life, what your experiences have been, and overcoming the obstacles that prevent you from having a more fulfilling life. I provide clients with better tools for processing, communicating, and establishing a framework for choosing healthier options. Sessions are personal and engaging, and help improve outlook and esteem. Many of my Articles about relationships and other subjects can be found on my website lesliefabianlcsw.com

I work with adults and teens experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma. Therapy is a space where you can develop insight into how you became the person you are, while learning to have more compassion for yourself. You can explore how to cope with life's challenges in a way that feels healthy and practical. So many of us are carrying heavy emotional burdens which impact how we show up in the world, for our families, and for ourselves. We often feel alone with our feelings, stuck in a place of shame, unsure of how to heal and move forward. I believe we are greatly influenced by our early experiences with our families and caregivers. How did those experiences mold you into who you are, and how might they be holding you back? Changing your relationship with yourself is integral to living the life you want. My work also includes helping clients to look at how their thoughts impact mood and behavior. I enjoy integrating mindfulness practices and other strategies so that clients gain practical strategies to deal with the inevitable challenges we all face. Let's move from a place of self-blame to a place of acceptance and healing. Please reach out today.

Making the first call is sometimes the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I commend you for your strength and courage in seeking help. If you are experiencing challenges with your significant other(s), friends, family members I can help you to improve the connection, understanding, and intimacy. ADHD is more than just "having difficulty focusing," and no, not "everyone has a little bit of ADHD" as many people claim nowadays. The impact of ADHD is pervasive and can keep you from reaching your goals, connecting with others, maintaining a routine despite knowing that it would be helpful, and constantly "masking" for fear that you will not be accepted as you are. Life administrative tasks feel daunting and get postponed repeatedly, and the negative self-talk that ensues as a result takes a further toll and increases avoidance. I can help you understand the brain science of ADHD, incorporate aspects of mindfulness, somatic work, and other modalities to overcome these challenges, and regain your mental energy. You'll learn to work with your neurodivergence, NOT against it. I work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, lens and am mindful about how culture, immigration journeys and systemic racism play a role in how someone compensates for their ADHD.

I realize that the decision to start therapy is not an easy one. Being in therapy is both a challenging and rewarding experience that can help you achieve life goals and help you reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. I consider it a privilege to work as a psychologist and to be a part of my clients’ lives. Prior to opening my private practice, I worked in a college counseling center for 6 years. I thoroughly enjoy meeting with college students and helping them navigate the challenges they are facing. Feel free to contact me by phone or email if you would like to set up a first appointment or learn more about my practice.

I enjoy helping clients who need assistance reaching a healthier emotional life. I always tell my clients: my goal is to get you to the point where you tell me I'm no longer needed in your life.
