Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
I approach the therapeutic process with the belief that therapy is simply a human helping a human. By offering an objective and judgement free setting, my hope is to provide a space that offers freedom to share and feel without hesitation. I am a masters-level clinician; I earned a master of science degree in counseling and psychology from Troy University in 2016. I'm a client centered counselor with a passion to help empower individuals to gain knowledge, skills, and tools to work through their presenting problems. I aim to build a therapeutic alliance with my clients and create a safe, judgment-free atmosphere with the hope that they are able to openly explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe in the power of knowledge and it's ability to impact healing and frequently apply psychoeducation into treatment. I'm a strength-based therapist and my overall theoretical orientation is integrative; it commonly includes utilization of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as behavioral and solution-focused techniques. I enjoy working with individuals who suffer from anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, relationship issues, and various life challenges. I'm happy to currently serve individuals 18+. I'm licensed in NC and SC. I'm also an out-of-state provider for the state of Florida allowing the option for telehealth for clients located in Florida at the time of service. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have worked in counseling focusing on grief for 14 years. In working with grief and loss I have found that this opening provides opportunities to recreate yourself because parts of your world have changed. This experience has helped me grow as a counselor over these years and to understand that we are all here to learn more about ourselves as challenges come into our lives. I have worked with clients with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, physical and sexual trauma, job changes, and relationship issues. I have also worked with those who have other challenges such as High Functioning Autism and issues concerning the LGBTQIA community. My approach to counseling comes from Person Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness techniques. I also have experience Heart Math for Stress and Anxiety where we use tools to regulate breath and heart rate. This skill can help one to be centered in the chaos and help to focus on your healing process. I also used techniques found in Mindfulness that helps to focus on the present moments versus worries about past or future. I believe in the ability within each individual to overcome the challenges that they face during the course of their lives. There should be a genuine relationship between the therapist and the client. This purpose is the creation of a safe place for the client to grow in their awareness of themselves and their environment. I believe in these theories because they center on the individual and their innate power to overcome their personal challenges. All of these theories and techniques give the client the confidence to realize that they do have the power to create their own reality and make positive choices. It is vital that the client feels a connection with their therapist to provide the trust involved in making the necessary changes in themselves.

You might look like you have it all together on the outside, but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly in your own head. Maybe you overthink everything or second guess yourself more than you'd like to admit. Does that sound familiar? Therapy with me is a place to be real, sort through what's going on, and start making meaningful changes (at a pace that actually feels manageable). We'll work towards a clearer understanding of yourself, more confidence in your decisions, and a greater sense of balance moving forward. It doesn't have to feel heavy all the time - we can bring honesty and even a little humor into the process. I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, and self-esteem using a CBT and trauma-informed approach. My work focuses on helping you understand patterns, build practical coping skills, navigate challenges more effectively, and create meaningful, lasting change. Therapy with me is supportive, collaborative, and real. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and you don't have to have it all figured out (no one really does - not even me). If you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you're not alone. You don't need the "perfect" reason to start therapy - just showing up is enough. I'd love to connect and offer a space where you can be open and feel heard.

I can be an empathetic supporter in your journey. We can collaborate on a treatment plan to help you to reach your goals. My approach is affirming, and grounded in empowerment. I'm LGBTQ+ friendly and deeply anti-judgment. I meet you where you are, not where you think you should be. Together, we challenge shame and rigid beliefs while building insight, autonomy, and self trust so life can feel more authentic and connected.
