Helping children, teens, college students, and adults facing challenges related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, and life transitions. I also enjoy working with artists and musicians navigating creativity, performance pressure, and balance. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Therapy can help you better understand yourself and build tools that work in everyday life. I offer online therapy to anyone in Michigan, no matter where you live, with weekday and evenings available, plus limited in-person sessions. Do you feel overwhelmed no matter how hard you try to keep up? Are you constantly behind, overthinking everything, or wondering why simple tasks feel so hard? I know what that’s like: the mental noise, the pressure to do more, and the frustration of feeling stuck. Living with ADHD, anxiety, or depression can wear you down, and I don’t want you to face it alone. With the right support and practical tools, things can get easier, and I look forward to helping you feel more in control of your life. The tools I use in sessions are ones I’ve developed over years of working with students and adults who felt overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Before becoming a therapist, I spent nearly a decade working in school settings, helping people better understand how they learn, think, and cope. That experience shaped the way I work today: practical, thoughtful, collaborative, and focused on what actually helps in everyday life. My goal is for you to leave therapy with tools you can use anywhere. Not complicated theories, but simple strategies to help you focus, calm your mind, manage emotions, and handle hard moments. We build these tools together, at your pace, in ways that fit your life. I’m collaborative and supportive, but also active and goal focused. We won’t just talk about what’s hard. We’ll work on what to do about it, starting with what’s bothering you right now and building skills to help you feel more in control. If you’re ready to feel more balanced, confident, and in control of your life, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. Let’s talk about what you’re looking for and see if we’re a good fit.

Susan Willacker-Brown

Pre-Licensed Professional
In-Person & Online
Ann Arbor, MI

Susan Willacker-Brown, MA, LLP, NCSP, is a graduate of the School and Community Psychology program at Wayne State University. Susan seeks to partner with parents and families to address difficulties that children often experience, including anxiety, behavioral difficulties, learning challenges, and adjustment to changing life circumstances. Susan believes that parents/caregivers are not only their children’s first teachers, but often their best therapists. She seeks to support parents (biological, adoptive, step, foster) and families of all types as they navigate the often-challenging work of nurturing and supporting the children in their care. Susan believes in helping parents to “secure their own oxygen masks before assisting others,” by providing a safe space for parents to explore their own identities and experiences as caregivers. She is also experienced at providing practical guidance to parents facing challenging moments with their children. Every parent, child and family is different, and the unique challenges they face call for an individualized approach to each. Susan’s work is informed by her background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Susan is comfortable working with caregivers of all types, but is particularly interested in supporting families working to co-parent during/after parental separation, blended families, and LGBTQ+ parents/families. In addition to her work with Hutchison & Associates, Susan is a nationally-certified School Psychologist currently serving the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. She draws on her experience in the school setting to provide thorough psychological/psychoeducational/neuropsychological evaluation services to both children and adults at Hutchison & Associates. Susan seeks to make the evaluation process both practically beneficial and personally therapeutic, providing feedback that clients can use to improve their functioning at home, school, or work, while also helping them to better understand and appreciate their unique strengths.

College can feel exciting, overwhelming, lonely, and exhausting, sometimes all in the same day. I work best with students and young adults who are anxious, stuck in their thoughts, struggling with intrusive thoughts or panic, overwhelmed by ADHD, feeling depressed, or trying to navigate relationships, family stress, identity, independence, and major life changes. My style is warm, honest, collaborative, and practical. I will not just silently nod while you try to figure everything out alone. We will talk through what is happening, build skills you can actually use, and make room for humor when it fits. You do not need to have the perfect words or know exactly what is wrong before reaching out. I offer telehealth throughout Michigan and in-person appointments in Brighton.

You look like you’re holding it together on the outside, but inside your mind never really slows down. Maybe you overthink everything after the fact, put pressure on yourself to get things “right,” or feel emotionally exhausted from constantly trying to keep up. Even when you finally have time to relax, your brain keeps going. The worry, self-doubt, and pressure can become overwhelming. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I work with people who struggle with anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, burnout, and feeling stuck in patterns that leave them mentally drained. Many of my clients are high-achieving, caring, and incredibly hard on themselves. They’re used to pushing through, but deep down they want to feel calmer, more grounded, and more like themselves again. Therapy with me is warm, supportive, and real. I want you to feel like you can show up exactly as you are here—without having to explain everything perfectly or pretend you’re doing okay when you’re not. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s been weighing on you and help you find ways to quiet the constant mental noise. I won’t just sit back and nod. I’ll gently guide you, help you notice patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and offer practical tools that actually fit your life. At the same time, we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can finally exhale a little. A place where you feel understood, supported, and less alone in what you’re carrying. You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. If this resonates with you, I’d love to connect.

I work best with college women who are thoughtful, driven, and often putting a lot of pressure on themselves to get things right. You may be struggling with anxiety, people-pleasing, self-doubt, or boundaries, even when you seem confident and capable on the outside. Maybe you overthink decisions, worry about disappointing others, or have a hard time knowing what you actually want or need. Often, these struggles don’t come out of nowhere. Past trauma, abuse, or painful relationships, especially sexual or emotional abuse, can shape how you see yourself, trust yourself, and connect with others. You may find yourself putting your needs aside, keeping the peace, questioning your feelings, or struggling to feel safe and secure in relationships. My private practice focuses on helping teen girls and young adult women heal from complex trauma. I bring more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field and advanced training in trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR and Brainspotting, along with IFS-informed parts work and somatic interventions. Together, we can better understand the experiences and patterns that have shaped you while helping you trust yourself, find your voice, set healthier boundaries, and build more secure relationships. My hope is that you grow in confidence and experience greater freedom to move forward with a stronger sense of who you are and who you were made to be.

You’re thoughtful, capable, & accomplished, yet something doesn’t feel quite right. You may struggle with anxiety, depression, emotional reactivity, burnout, or relationship difficulties. Perhaps the same patterns keep repeating or life feels harder than it should. You may have tried pushing through or relying on self-help books, advice from others, or prior therapy without resolution. Many of the adults, teens, & couples I work with are looking for more than quick fixes or symptom relief alone. They want to understand why they struggle & reach a place where they can experience greater insight, confidence, direction, & inner peace. I’m a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist, researcher, & educator specializing in psychodynamic therapy. I work with complex problems across the lifespan, drawing on advanced training in personality, attachment, trauma, & relational functioning. I provide psychological testing for diagnostic clarification & offer dating consultation & clinical supervision. Finding the right fit matters. Whether you're pursuing personal growth, healing from old wounds, or seeking something different from past care, my goal is to create a space where you feel seen, understood, & supported, while also gaining perspective. If this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out to see whether working together might be helpful.
