Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
Hello my name is Nataeah Barron. I am a licensed marriage family therapist, licensed addiction counselor, and a first responder counselor. I have abundant experience working with relationships, life stressors, life transitions, PTSD, trauma, and anxiety/depression.
You might be a good fit for working with me if you feel like you’re holding a lot inside. Maybe you look like you have it together on the outside, but internally you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted—especially when it comes to relationships with family, partners, or friends. You might be dealing with stress from school while also trying to navigate breakups, family tension, or long-standing patterns in relationships that you don’t fully understand yet. Maybe you’ve caught yourself thinking, “I should be able to handle this,” but something still feels stuck. If you tend to be someone who cares deeply about others, takes on responsibility, and pushes through—even when it’s hard—you’re not alone. Many students I work with feel this way. They’re not broken or failing; they’re just tired of carrying everything by themselves. If you’re looking for a space where you can slow down, talk honestly, and learn practical ways to cope while also making sense of what you’re going through, we’ll likely work well together. You don’t have to have all the answers—just a willingness to show up as you are.

Healing is deeply personal, and having the right support can make all the difference. As a licensed therapist with three years of experience, I’m dedicated to helping people across the lifespan navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, and the emotional weight that can accumulate over time. Whether you're working through a painful experience, building more confidence in yourself, or simply looking for steadier ground, you'll find a space here that is empathetic, honest, and completely free of judgment. Therapy works best when it feels like a genuine human connection grounded in compassion and respect, and that's exactly what you can expect with me. My goal is to be a steady, supportive presence you feel genuinely comfortable with as you work toward healing, confidence, and personal growth that feel meaningful and lasting. Together, we'll create a supportive, down-to-earth space where you feel heard, understood, and never judged. My approach is warm, collaborative, and flexible, ensuring your healing environment is always tailored to your unique needs, goals, and lived experience. Drawing on evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and EMDR, we'll build healthy coping skills, process difficult experiences, and support your overall emotional well-being to create positive change. Trauma-informed care is central to how I work, and empowering you throughout your healing journey is something I am genuinely passionate about. You set the direction; I'll help you find the way forward. My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by my own experience in therapy and the profound impact of having people truly in my corner during some of the most difficult seasons of my life. Those relationships stayed with me, and they continue to shape how I show up for every person I work with. This foundation deepened my commitment to care that is compassionate, trauma-informed, and centered on each person’s experience. In every session, I bring empathy, honesty, and genuine respect for the process, with the intention of creating a space where you feel safe enough to be real, supported as you are, and encouraged in your own healing. Outside of the therapy room, I find restoration in nature, whether that's going for walks, hiking, biking, or simply being outdoors to unplug and reset. Traveling and exploring new places brings me a lot of joy, as does unhurried time with family and friends. When I'm winding down at the end of the day, you'll likely find me working on a puzzle while listening to a podcast, a simple combination that helps me slow down and recharge.
Starting college can be such an exciting time AND it is not always easy. Would meds be helpful for you? While not always indicated, when they are, psychiatric medication can be a life saver. I can help you figure out if psychiatric meds would be supportive for you. This could be the gift to yourself that would have you feeling more open to all of the amazing opportunities that college life has to offer… and to your most full & incredible life. My goal is for you to feel more like yourself again. I look forward to hearing from you.
Feeling like a shadow of your former self. Just going through the motions. All this pretending, performing—it’s exhausting. You’ve become a master at molding yourself to fit others’ expectations of you. And just to keep the peace. And social media is messing with your mental health. Every scroll through Instagram feels like being bombarded by a barrage of perfect lives. You can’t help but compare, feeling like you’re coming up short. And so you dive deeper into the people-pleasing game, losing yourself in the process, just craving some validation. How do you even begin to claw your way out of this hot mess express? You’re not wrong, change isn’t always crystal clear. But hand me that brain teaser. Before you know it, you’re on a clear path to your goals. Fast forward, you’ve ditched the stuff holding you back from happiness. You even love your messy, imperfect parts. Now, you’re fully embracing the real, confident you. Ditching anything that chips away at your self-worth. Nodding along? I’ve got you covered. Combining your drive for change with EMDR therapy is sure to bring incredible results. Think of EMDR as a train ride through your past, leaving issues behind as you move forward. It’s time to unlock your true potential. I’m here for you every step of the way. Ready to chat? Fundamentally, my aim is to support my clients in contacting their inner self-knowing, and "make friends" with all of the various parts of themselves in the warmth and security of this inner space. To achieve this, I practice person-centered therapy, with a strong emphasis on somatic awareness. When working with clients, I am listening for "what wants to be heard" that day. In my view, I am a supportive and curious observer, and my job is to reflect back to my client what I am seeing. My style tends to be more direct, and I regularly encourage my clients to take ownership over their treatment and to trust themselves. In a first session with me, we explore where you've been, where you are, and where you would like to go. Often, I invite people to tell me their story and then describe their current situation. We will work together to assess what feels like the most supportive areas of focus, and will create some goals which guide our future sessions. During this process, however, you can still expect curiousity, empowerment, and validation. What's most important in any session is establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

I work with college students and young adults who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, overthinking, performance pressure, and emotional shutdown — even when they are capable and motivated. Many of the students I support struggle with test anxiety, presentations, interviews, perfectionism, panic symptoms, or the sense that their nervous system goes into “fight or flight” under pressure. Others experience anxiety and depression together, which can affect motivation, focus, and connection. My approach is neuroscience-informed and practical. I use evidence-based therapies including EMDR, ACT, CBT, Polyvagal-informed therapy, and mindfulness-based strategies to help clients regulate their nervous system, reduce reactivity, and build confidence in real-world situations. I provide a supportive, structured space where students can develop tools to manage stress, improve emotional regulation, and move forward with greater clarity and resilience

I see myself as a fellow traveler with my clients. The anti-oppressive and feminist framework I utilize in therapy is also deeply personal. My lived experience as a neurospicy woman, questioning hetero/mononormativity in relationships, embracing my queerness, tending to my grief and trauma, and in recovery from substance use is also present as part of my professional self. I cherish the privilege to be here with you! I dedicate my work to helping clients discover new strategies to more gently carry their lived experiences. Most especially: managing life transitions and existential crises; exploring neurodivergence; navigating chronic illness; relational ruptures; seeking answers about identity and belonging in queer spaces; grief; self-image challenges; exiting high-control relationships; transitioning out of endurance athletics; sensory sensitivities; climate grief/anxiety. Many clients receive me as a consistent, supportive presence who allows for space for what is, and offers mindful posing of questions that generate reflections and expand your perspective. My therapy "room" is also an open lab for exploring what comes up in the here-and-now, which opens you up for experiencing relational repair and growth. I hope our therapeutic relationship helps you to feel more authentic, empowered, and connected to your own essence.
