Therapists for college students near 80309
Therapy asks us to tap into vulnerable parts of ourselves. It requires safety and comfort. My clients are courageous enough to show up as their authentic selves, therefore I value being my authentic self within our therapeutic relationship. I incorporate empirically supported interventions into our time processing concerns, building self-awareness, making meaningful changes, and exploring identities. I specialize working with individuals who desire to dedicate less time and energy to food and body image concerns, and more time to aspects of life truly important to them. I approach disordered eating and body image work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. I want my clients to “taste life” and to experience it in a fulfilling way. I also have ample experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, relational concerns, life transitions, perfectionism, ADD/ADHD, and athletic identity. I value and enjoy working with diverse populations and strive to create a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, and identities. While we may not share identities or experiences, it is my mission as your therapist to approach our work with humility and to gain understanding of your authentic self.
My goal is to create a safe relationship where you can process all the pieces of your experience. We’ll look together at how your cultural identities and family context have shaped how you experience the world, and how your past impacts your present. We’ll approach your relational patterns with a sense of curiosity and compassion. We'll explore, “How did I get here, what does it mean to be here, and where do I want to go?". Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I hope to provide a space where you can face your difficulties in order to restore connection, both to yourself and to the most important people in your life. My approach is warm and direct, and I'm informed by training in attachment, trauma, grief & loss, perinatal mental health, infertility, emotional agility, embodiment, religious deconstruction, brain science, cultural influences, privilege & oppression, HAES, and couple/family systems. I am accepting new clients and I'd love to meet you! For CO: in-network with Aetna and Cigna. For IL: in-network with BCBS. I also partner with a company called Mentaya that helps clients access their out-of-network benefits. You may be eligible to receive partial reimbursements for your sessions. Contact me for more info. If you have any questions about anything on my profile, feel free to reach out!
I have over 20 years of working with college students in both counseling and pastoral care contexts.

We offer affirming psychotherapy and sex therapy for individuals, couples, multiple-partner relationships, and poly and leather families. We are experts in alternative sexualities, specializing in working with adults in the kink/BDSM, polyamorous/non-monogamous, trans/gender-nonconforming/non-binary, LGBQIA+, and sex work communities. We work with those who live openly and out; and those who have more conservative and private lifestyles. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including holistic, person-centered, collaborative, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed, IFS, DBT, and EMDR. We welcome people of every ability, age, gender, national origin, race/ethnicity, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation, and we cultivate space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. People seek therapy for many reasons, including: a deeper understanding of identity or sexuality; difficulty adjusting to relationship difficulties or traumatic experiences; anxiety and/or depression; sexual functioning issues; compulsive thoughts or behavior; and/or changes in relationship structure or power dynamic. Most people decide to work with my practice because of my specialized training and experience, or because they feel more comfortable speaking to a therapist with first-hand knowledge of alternative identities and lifestyles.

Hello! My passion is working with university students to live their best lives with healthy minds, bodies, and spirits. I have tailored my career, since residency, to working with this wonderfully diverse population while at the University of Illinois, followed by a move to Boulder, CO, then settling down in Fort Collins, and working at the Colorado State University Health Network for several years. I’m now in private practice down the road from CSU and across from the vet school. And I am licensed in both Colorado and Wyoming (with office space in Fort Collins, CO and Laramie, WY) I trained at the University of Illinois for both medical school (2005) and residency (2009) in psychiatry. I offer both psychotherapy and medication management. While I have expertise in many mental illnesses, I have a strong interest in ADHD, sleep disorders, women’s health issues, trauma, depression, and anxiety. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to thrive! Feel free to send me an email!
I help stressed out and anxious people of any gender to heal trauma, make work suck less, and get good at relationships. I’m an Denver LGBT therapist providing EMDR therapy with a decade of experience. I’m terrible at pop culture and I love puns. My goal for my clients is to have a sustainable life where you can thrive. I want you to feel like you can navigate what life throws at you, even if it’s hard. I’m deeply invested in finding out what works for you (vs. anyone else). I’m less likely to promote something as “healthy” in therapy and more likely to ask you how it’s working for you. I won’t look at you sideways when you drop your partner’s pronouns or ask me to use a new name for you. We’ll curse, cry, and probably (hopefully) laugh. We’ll be human together.
Are you struggling with panic attacks? Intrusive thoughts that get stuck in your head? Are you feeling more stressed in relationships, work or school? Are you someone that has always been a worrier and would like to change? I can help! CBT is a goal based therapy that takes a hands-on approach, involves problem solving and learning specific techniques to help you manage and reduce your struggles. I believe that each person is unique. Counseling strategies must be collaborative and focused on the person's individual needs, style and goals. Finding a therapist that is a good fit can be challenging, please visit my website to schedule a free 15 phone consultation to see if I am a good fit for what you are looking for.
When you’re the type of person who “shows up” for everyone else, it can be hard to admit you’re burned out. Helping is how you’ve learned to cope, connect and stay safe. I treat depression, anxiety, and burnout for people (15 years and older) who are too busy pleasing others to help themselves. My clients often find themselves having sudden health issues or lack of concentration and get into an identity crisis! "Who am I if I can't pull off miracles every day?!?" I offer a combination of psychotherapy and art therapy, which works well for people who don’t know where to start. I also integrate financial therapy into sessions because money issues are often unspoken roadblocks to personal growth. Art therapy is for all ages, and I primarily work with teens and adults. If a little part of you did a cartwheel when you read “art therapy”, it just might be a good fit for you. If another little part of you also got scared and nervous, that’s completely normal. You won't be judged about talent or skill, it's really about the process, not the product. Many clients have big new insights into their lives by working with images. When you've been running on empty, it's time to fill your tank. I'm a recovered pleaser too!
As a therapist, I believe that every individual has an innate capacity for wisdom, healing, and wholeness. My role is to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients feel supported and empowered to access their inner strengths. Guided by a deep commitment to unconditional positive regard, I focus on creating meaningful therapeutic connections that honor each client’s unique experiences and identity. Growing up a neurodivergent child, I was medicated and pushed into talk therapy that only seemed to make things worse to be completely honest. What offered me the most solace in these times was my relationship to nature and animals. For this reason, I find it important to offer trauma-informed, diverse approaches to therapy, such as animal-assisted therapy, mindfulness and nature based therapies, walk-and-talk sessions, and nature retreats, as well as, traditional office and telehealth sessions. It is very important to me to provide therapy that is flexible and accessible for clients to engage in, so we will collaborate to find the best approach for your sessions possible! Whether you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and are in need of support, or you’re experiencing neurodivergent burnout, navigating life transitions, working to build self-acceptance, or healing from past experiences, I promise to walk alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and authenticity. Together, we will create a space where your voice is heard, your identity is celebrated, and your journey toward healing feels affirming and grounded.
Whether due to stormy family dynamics, unstable relationships, first-gen, LGBTQ, 'adulting', or having to navigate the never-ending COVID pandemic - life can become unmanageable! In the past five years with the University of Florida, I've had the tremendous joy of helping people (help themselves) through these storms - recent/old trauma, loving-and-conflictual relationships, coming to more peace and power with one's identity, more clarity and success at academics and career aspirations. You can count on me to be authentic and open, to come from a place of tenderness, warmth, and humor. Based in genuine, caring listening I try to offer everything possible to help you achieve lasting change. I'm a licensed psychologist (Hawaii - where I lived for years, Florida and Colorado), and am familiar with key areas of the scientific, empirical work and helps articulate trauma, anxiety and depression - and this points powerfully to what we can do to heal. My scholarly research and clinical experiences led to the completion of a book, “The Bruised Heart”. This book provides both in-depth information on the science of emotional healing and multiple clinical examples of real people (clients) whom I was so fortunate to know. I'm especially a good fit for anyone that may be (or called) “hypersensitive”, anyone who longs for authentic friendship, anyone who feels destabilized, perhaps following a break-up or stemming from chaotic family patterns. I love working with gifted and high IQ individuals, for example, with medical students, post docs, artists, and musicians who are highly intelligent but “underperforming” and simply suffering. And I have a passion for first-gen students, and has worked with many from, for example, Colombia, Brazil and Iran. Additionally, I think I am a strong fit for anyone who passionate about psychospiritual approaches to healing, growth and transformation. There are very realistic, nonabstract, doable ways to integrate forms of meditation into one’s busy life and this can be a gamechanger. Finally, I supervise third-year psychiatry residents and routinely assist clients in exploring medication options.
