I work with college students like you who want to build a better relationship with themselves and create deeper connections with others. Whether it's recognizing patterns from the past or figuring out what’s really going on inside, I’ll help you break free and start creating new habits that reflect your true self. I specialize in relational and sexual concerns—think intimacy, consent, communication—and I'm experienced working with folks in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships, as well as those into kink. Talking about relationships, identity, sex, and intimacy can be tricky, but you're not alone in this! Therapy is all about collaboration and finding your own pace. My goal is to support you in feeling more connected, empowered, and clear in your choices. We'll work together to improve your relationships—whether it’s with yourself or others—and ensure they align with what truly matters to you. I know starting therapy can feel intimidating, but I’m proud of you for taking this step! Let’s navigate your challenges together, at a pace that feels right for you.
I believe that everyone deserves the chance to flourish in life. Life throws us curveballs, often causing us to lose sight of who we are and what we need to feel worthy and successful. My main priority with clients is to create a safe space, free from judgment and criticism. I utilize a multitude of counseling theories in my work, but always practice from a client-centered foundation, in which I work to empower my clients to take an active role in their treatment. I believe there is value in collaboration, and I want to work together to navigate through the challenges that come up. Growing up as a competitive athlete, I experienced firsthand the impact that academic and athletic pressures can have on the body and mind. I played Division I soccer at the collegiate level, and therefore, have a speciality of working with athletes. I use my personal experiences with mental health to connect authentically with clients.

Current openings for new clients are available as of 9/1/2021. Throughout our lives, experiences we have can lead us to feel disconnected in various ways, from our own sense of self and values, important people in our life, and our emotions. This disconnection can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation, lack of motivation, overwhelming anxiety, or uncertainty about who we are and what we want in life and it often leads to unhealthy ways of coping (e.g., emotional eating, focusing too much on work, lack of self-care, etc.). My focus in working with clients is to help them reconnect with themselves, with others, and with their emotions so that they can lead a more satisfying life filled with meaningful relationships and purpose. My approach to therapy is primarily rooted in a modern psychodynamic orientation. As such, I value the development of a strong therapeutic relationship and meaningful connection with clients. Together, we work on understanding unhealthy patterns and improve ability to cope with distress, manage multiple life roles, live a more balanced life, and connect more fully with emotions. I am especially passionate about working with college-aged students and athletes who may be experiencing eating and/or body image concerns, as well as issues related to men and masculinity. . I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Penn State University and completed my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Penn State University.
Are you feeling stuck? Or perhaps you are struggling with difficult emotions, distressing thoughts, or a sense of disconnection from yourself and/or others. Are coping skills that worked in the past failing to make a difference or are now part of the problem? I believe that therapy can provide a unique space to work through difficult life experiences. My goal is to provide you with a safe, supportive, collaborative space that fosters long-term change by helping you understand the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that get you off track and develop the skills to manage life's challenges. We all have the ability to cultivate a meaningful life, one informed by your values and the things that matter. My approach is grounded in evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I integrate mindfulness, positive psychology, biofeedback, and humor in my approach to treatment.
Feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or curious? Whether working through a new adjustment or struggling with communication, I offer a safe, inclusive space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered. I am especially drawn to working with individuals, couples, and families navigating through life transitions, those in the LGBTQIA+ community, and those searching for a unique approach to this journey at their own pace. As a queer woman and Philadelphia local I bring lived experience and understanding, emphasizing a nonjudgmental stance as we navigate through this therapeutic journey I emphasize a systems-based approach, highlighting the importance of patterns and interconnections of relationships. I also work through an intersectional framework, understanding the unique interactions of identities that shape individual experience. As you bring your unique self to this experience, we will begin to unravel the complexities and contexts that hold importance, and with it I hope to empower you in each step going forward. I am currently accepting new clients, please reach out with any questions, or for a free 20 minute consultation!

Trying to find the right therapist in the middle of exams, papers, and trying to maintain a social life can feel overwhelming. I'm so glad you are here anyway! The most important things in finding a therapist is: 1) Finding someone you feel comfortable with- I work hard to make sessions as relaxed and comfortable as possible. I'm Sandi Christiansen (she/her/hers), a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology at Saint Joseph's University, and my Master's in Clinical & Counseling Psychology at Chestnut Hill College with a specialization in Child & Adolescent Counseling. I have been licensed since 2010, and have been working in the field of mental health and substance use disorders for almost 15 years. I recognize the vulnerability and strength it takes to decide to start going to therapy and begin making changes. Whether you're a college student struggling with friendships, a young adult managing life and its stressors, a parent of a child experiencing anxiety...it's hard to know where to start. I'm here to help you navigate! I utilize strength-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), with elements of a psychodynamic approach (touching on attachment, relationship, and behavior patterns through the lens of object relations theory). I maintain unconditional positive regard for my clients, and offer what I hope will become a safe space for people to talk about difficult things. Together, we will set achievable, measurable goals for your future as well as gaining a better understanding of your past. I pride myself on my professionalism and experience, but most importantly I have been told over and over again that I am relatable, approachable, and non-judgmental. I tell my clients all the time -- I am the expert in the field, but you are the expert on your own life. If any of this resonates with you, we might be a good fit to work together. Please feel comfortable reaching out to set up a complimentary 15 minute consultation. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you find your next step.
Are you having trouble at school, home, social settings? I am here to help! My goal is to assist clients with finding coping skills and strategies that they can use to apply outside of session. Together we will find out how to help you succeed in all areas of life by building confidence (you have it in you!) and tackling school!
Children, teenagers, and young adults are more overwhelmed today than ever. The daily challenges they face can be highly stressful and can lead to significant impairments in self-esteem, family relationships, school functioning, friendships, and other important areas of life. My ultimate goals as a therapist are to help young people find good life balance and develop a sense of peace within themselves. I enjoy providing a space where individuals and families can safely work through difficult situations, while learning to feel good about themselves, acquire problem-solving skills, maximize their natural strengths, and utilize the supports they have in their lives.

Greetings! I am a licensed professional counselor with 7 years of experience in the field who is currently offering Telehealth appointments. I specialize in working with clients who suffer from anxiety disorders and OCD. Other interests include helping clients with trauma, substance use, and difficulties regulating their emotions. I have worked in a variety of other settings including a college counseling center, a residential treatment facility for juveniles, and a primary care medical setting. A passion of mine is helping college students navigate their rich and complex lives.
People I work with are hurting and confused, feeling alone and anxious, acting like everything's ok when it's not, hiding a lot of themselves a lot of the time. If you want to understand and work better with how you're thinking, feeling, and acting, if you want to be more dialed in and feel more confident... I can help.
