Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania, and I completed my PhD in Counseling Psychology. Student who benefit most from therapy with me are interested in learning more about themselves--their close relationships, their goals (even if they feel uncertain or lacking), and their sense of self. Perhaps you are feeling depressed, anxious, or you're currently in substantial distress due to important changes or stressors in your life. Perhaps life is going well enough, but you simply feel empty, lack meaning, or you want more out of life. Adjusting to college can be challenging, whether it be (a) moving away from home, making friends, and adjusting to academics during your first year, (b) attempting to develop or maintain a social life, or "catching up" during the "Sophomore Slump", (c) choosing an academic major, or (d) completing a Sr thesis or figuring out what you want to do after graduation. These are all common reasons that bring students into counseling with me. Exploring one's developing or conflicted sense of racial, sexual, or gender identity are other common reasons students seek psychotherapy. I strive to create a therapeutic atmosphere that is safe, nonjudgmental, and nurturing.
As a trauma-informed, bilingual psychotherapist, I am dedicated to facilitating clients' personal healing. I assist individuals in overcoming patterns of recurring memories, maladaptive behaviors, and negative self-perceptions related to themselves, others, and their environment. My objective is to help clients cultivate ambition, a growth-oriented mindset, and sustained commitment to achieving positive change. Our work will commence by examining the formative messages that shape identity, as well as those imposed by one's surroundings, which may lead to feelings of disconnection from oneself.
Hi! I'm Cat. You've probably been to a therapist before, and it hasn't quite felt right. Or maybe you liked them, but felt disconnected from their approach. Felt that there was a way to work more deeply with your emotions, but your therapist wanted to talk about your thoughts, and give you homework. Felt really bogged down in the details, and the negative, of what's been going on in your life. Haven't really laughed. In our work together, we will privilege the positive. We will laugh. (And likely cry, too.) We'll develop a relationship that will "undo the aloneness" that we feel when our emotions are held within for waaaay too long. Therapy is specifically tailored to the person who is sitting in front of me, and will look different for everyone. Above everything, you will be heard and seen. In addition to therapy, I also offer mindfulness meditation classes to ease the stress of daily living. Reach out - I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to see if we would be a good fit.

Taking the step to begin therapy is courageous, and my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel understood. I believe change is always possible because our brains are capable of growth and healing. I work with adolescents and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, executive functioning struggles, and life transitions. My approach combines evidence-based methods like cognitive-behavioral therapy with insights from neuropsychology and psychopharmacology. I also help clients strengthen focus, resilience, and confidence through metacognitive skill development. In addition to my clinical practice, I teach psychology and counseling at the university level and have published research on learning, neuroplasticity, and the positive effects of therapy on the brain. These experiences help me bring both professional expertise and practical strategies to my work. Most importantly, therapy with me is collaborative. I’ll meet you where you are and partner with you to build a path forward that feels empowering, hopeful, and sustainable.

Therapy can be an intimidating journey, and getting started can often feel overwhelming. My hope is to build a therapeutic relationship that feels open, trusting, and supportive, so we can really focus on the challenges that have brought you to this point. Navigating young adulthood can be exhilarating and exciting, but can also lead to fear, worry, and challenges related to leaving home, taking on new roles, and learning about the world in a new way. Sometimes this transition can be hard as you figure out and learn about the different parts of yourself in emerging adulthood. I am excited to walk alongside you as you take this new step towards growth and healing. I believe my clients are experts on their lived experience. I believe my clients deserve trauma informed, inclusive, and affirming care.
