Due to recent circumstances, Reset Outdoors is currently only offering phone or video chat sessions. We hope to be able to offer in-person sessions again soon. Reset Outdoors offers both a traditional session format, as well as nontraditional outdoor sessions geared towards creating a therapeutic experience in the great outdoors. By creating a supportive, nonjudgmental, and empathetic atmosphere, I help my clients to feel safe in exploring their struggles, fears, hopes, and strengths. I specialize in issues related to gender, sexuality, anxiety, depression, and trauma. For individuals pursing medical transition, I offer single-session evaluations for HRT and surgery referrals. I believe strongly in tailoring my approach to each of my clients' individual needs and therefore utilize a number of therapeutic techniques in my treatment approach. In our outdoor session format, we combine the inherent benefits of responsive listening, low-impact physical exercise, and the great outdoors. It is my belief that each individual already possesses exactly what they need to achieve healing, therefore I will do my best to support you in your efforts to uncover your own power, resilience, and sense of peace. I can be reached best through email at: emily@resetoutdoors.com

I truly believe that everyone has the capacity to grow when they’re in a space that feels safe and accepting. At the heart of my work is building a genuine, trusting connection with you—because real healing begins when you feel truly seen, heard, understood, and accepted. Together, we’ll create a warm and welcoming space where vulnerability is embraced and self-exploration feels comfortable. Above all, I’m here to hold space for you with kindness and openness, honoring your unique needs, passions, experiences, wisdom, and hopes for the future. Specializations I’m especially passionate about supporting adults who grew up with caregivers who, for various reasons, may not have met their emotional needs.Together, we work to heal from those early experiences, find your true voice, clarify what matters most to you, and create a life that feels authentic, grounded, and free. I work with clients ages 15 and up to navigate challenges related to: Childhood relational trauma, emotionally immature parents, & unmet emotional needs Relationship patterns, boundaries, people-pleasing, & guilt Exploring identity, values, & personal growth Identity diffusion & enmeshment Shame, self-doubt, & indecisiveness Life transitions & emerging adulthood Grief & loss Anxiety, depression, & low self-worth Emotional regulation & distress tolerance Could We be a Good Fit? Clients who tend to do well with me often appreciate a little lightheartedness or humor during our sessions and enjoy putting what we talk about into practice between meetings—sometimes through small homework or weekly goals. Many have found it helpful to bring their creative interests into our work, which helps us build a space where you can feel safe, inspired, and free to be your authentic self. I’ve also noticed that adolescents, young adults, and college students often feel especially comfortable and connected in our time together. Therapeutic Approaches My approach to therapy is primarily rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with curiosity and work toward making the changes you’d like to see in yourself. For those who resonate with this approach, I incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support compassionate exploration of your inner parts. I also use a person-centered and trauma-informed lens, honoring the impact of your life experiences and creating a space where all parts of you are welcome. While CBT and IFS are my go-to methods, I like to keep things flexible, drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to tailor our work to what feels right for you. My hope is that you find a space in therapy that feels human, welcoming, and uniquely yours. If you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together in a way that supports your growth. I currently offer teletherapy sessions at River Wards Wellness Collective. I received my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Bryn Mawr College in 1995, and have been a therapist since that time. I have been in private practice in State College since 2006. My approach to therapy is diverse; I tend to practice from primarily interpersonal and psychodynamic perspectives, although I also draw from cognitive-behavioral paradigms. I see my role as provider of a safe and supportive environment in which to help individuals become more aware of the multiple aspects of themselves. A main component of the therapy consists of understanding how each person’s ‘story’ impacts who they are, and affects the difficulties they presently face. Clients are encouraged to consider their readiness for change as well as options for change that are both meaningful and realistic to them.

I believe in the inherent worth of everyone and that people genuinely do the best they can. We all experience joys and sorrows that can impact our daily functioning. Sometimes these experiences can make us feel "stuck," but we have the power to choose how we respond. Since learning never ends, we will discuss improving your self-awareness and build your "tool box" with strategies to empower you in everyday life. A caring atmosphere will be provided to help you discover your strengths, show yourself compassion, and to find balance in your life. I work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, abilities, and ages. Together, we'll build a tool box, so that you're better able to deal with situations that may cause discomfort. An eclectic and solution-focused approach to counseling is used. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness approaches are used as well. As we work together, we'll discuss ways to help improve your quality of life. I enjoy helping adults dealing with mental health changes, students with disabilities, individuals struggling with transitional issues (e.g. new diagnoses, elderly parents, veganism), career counseling, grief, pet loss, and how nutrition impacts mental health.
