Counseling is a brave space for clients to explore their experience, rewrite their narratives, and build stronger relationships. I also believe in a holistic approach to therapy to ensure all aspects of a person’s life are considered. Through my own mental health journey, I have learned the significance of collaborating with mind, body, and spirit. As a Black woman, I understand the need to provide mental health services to Black and minority communities, and to help eliminate negative stigmas about mental health for people of color. I am a sex-positive individual, who encourages identities outside of heteronormativity. I aim to help clients embark on their own wellness journeys and to cultivate a quality of life that reflects their personal values, cultures, and beliefs. I will use elements of DBT, Somatic, AEDP, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing modalities to individualize treatment for each client’s specific needs and goals. I strive for a therapeutic relationship that can be the foundation for continual healing and growth, where learning takes the forefront and challenging discussions are encouraged. I am passionate and open to hearing my client's individual stories with fresh eyes, allowing them to connect and share their authentic selves in a non-judgmental environment.

Hello! I’m Sakena, and I’m a Master’s student in the Social Work Program at Binghamton University. I aim to create a safe space for clients to comfortably navigate through any difficulties. I understand everyone is different, and with that, I make sure my approaches are in each client’s best interest. When working with clients, I use approaches such as active listening, skill building, and mindfulness to help clients through the difficult experiences they’re facing. These skills come from a holistic approach that is person-centered and follows CBT and SFBT. My goal as your therapist is to help you reach your goals. I believe this journey is a collaborative process, and you can progress through it at your own pace. I hope to help clients explore how past experiences have shaped their current emotions and way of life. So together, we can highlight your strengths and aim for clarity and balance. Sakena Kearse is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapist-in-training accruing clinical hours.

As a first-generation college grad, I get the pressure and anxiety that come with starting college. The excitement of this big step can often mix with imposter syndrome as you navigate classes, friendships, and “adulting.” You don’t have to do it alone! I’m here to help you build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and manage life’s stressors.

About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists in-training accruing clinical hours. Since starting private practice, my clients have been for the most part POC, LGBTQ/non-binary, undergrad/graduate students. Since I spent five years teaching as an adjunct and then full-time professor (in nursing), I have some insights into the challenges today's students currently experience and believe I can be a useful asset toward managing any symptoms that may interfere with obtaining your degree. Even though I am a prescriber, I treat the whole person. I don't want to just know the medicine efficacy, or lack thereof; I also want to know what's going on in your life. Is there balance? Are you connected socially? Should we also be discussing any family issues? Going off to school can be challenging and although psychotropic medication plays a role in ameliorating anxiety and depression, we also can engage non-pharmacologic interventions to get you to a better place.

I practice online, utilizing HIPAA compliant videoconferencing software. My clients are people seeking help with depression, anxiety, family conflict, relationship issues and life transitions. My approach is collaborative and supportive, yet also challenging. Our task is to unpack the issues that are being brought up in our sessions and use them to facilitate growth and change. The relationship we develop is the most important thing to me.

I provide psychotherapy and contemporary psychoanalysis for adult individuals of all ages, identities, and backgrounds. I use several therapeutic techniques and an integrative approach that is tailored to suit the needs of each individual patient. I believe in the transformative powers of honesty, authenticity and unconditional positive regard. Therapy is ultimately about meaning making. I listen closely to my patients without judgment and without jumping to conclusions. My goal is to understand you on your own terms—free of any rigid diagnoses or other labels. I believe that the heart of this work resides in the therapeutic relationship itself, and to this end, I seek to build bridges of clarity and comfort between us. Our work together will consist of attempting to understand you in a holistic, depth-oriented manner. We will consider how your past might be effecting your present—have you developed patterns in your life that are inhibiting and no longer serve you well? I understand that some people seek out therapy to address a discrete, well-defined issue, while others come out of a more abstract, gnawing sense that something in their life needs to change.

I believe in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship - as a site for activation, reflection, examination, change, and corrective emotional experiences. So often the very things that have helped protect us throughout our lives also create barriers and challenges. Therapy offers us a space to slow down and explore these defenses and patterns, and to develop healthier alternatives. We will work collaboratively to reach mutual understanding, honest emotional expression, and to acknowledge and nourish your true self, in all of its complexity - which will hopefully lead to a more authentic, vibrant, fulfilling life. Therapy can offer a path through the stress and trauma of everyday life, and increase our resilience. My clients say that therapy has re-introduced them to themselves, allowed them to understand and accept themselves, helped them identify and change problematic patterns, given them new coping tools, helped them heal, and helped them find their voice. I work with a wide variety of clients and issues, with a focus on depression & mood issues, anxiety, identity, trauma, isolation, addiction, personality disorders, psychosis, loss & bereavement, and relationship & intimacy issues. I work with individuals, couples, and families; I also facilitate therapeutic groups. Contact me for a free phone consultation.

Hi, my name is Anna. Feeling misunderstood and other-ed can be deeply challenging, especially if you navigate the world with a unique set of experiences or marginalized ones—whether you're part of the queer and/or trans community, Neurodivergent, facing complex trauma, or dealing with chronic illness. I'm Anna, and my therapy work is built on meeting you right where you are. I tailor my approach to fit you—not the other way around. My goal? To empower you through self-compassion and acceptance, grounded in a deep understanding of the intersections of identity, disability justice, and mental health. I understand the nuances and power of shared lived experiences and seek to empower the people I work with through self-compassion and affirming and unconditionally accepting care. I am passionate about and educated on how intersectional marginalization and systemic issues affect our experiences and struggles. My academic background in gender, sex, sexuality, intersectionality, disability justice, and oppression enhances my ability to provide knowledgeable and culturally competent support. My lived experience in communities also allows me to connect you to holistic support and additional resources that may be relevant since our mental health is so deeply intertwined with all other parts of our lives and bodies. Let's honor your journey together. Book a free consultation call with me for therapy that adapts to you and affirms every part of who you are.

My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.
