Therapists for college students near 27705
A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

My clients often say that they feel seen and heard by me. I am able to provide effective feedback and interventions that feel accessible to them. My approach is more conversational and relaxed as I follow the lead of my client. I weave in evidence based approaches in a way that feels more casual. I feel this approach helps with trust building. I approach our work together with a collaborative mindset. You are the expert of your life story and I am here to help you reach your goals and potential by guiding you thru the blockages and issues that you feel are holding you back.

My mission is to walk alongside teenage and college-aged women, children, and families on their journey towards health and flourishing. I believe in a holistic approach to counseling that addresses the emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual facets of who we are. As a former student I understand the severe challenges college can bring. I am seeking to care for those struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, trauma, life transitions, and personal growth. I desire to be a light in the darkness and a source of hope and comfort for others in their own seasons of struggle. I am also happy to incorporate faith and spirituality in the counseling process upon request. I am a counseling intern under supervision pursuing my Master's degree in Christian Marriage, Family, and Individual Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Are you feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns- perhaps comparing yourself to others, lashing out at loved ones, feeling unmotivated or unfocused at work? Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are messengers, offering us information on areas that might need addressing. Therapy is a great place to begin that process. Whether you're unsure of what is behind these patterns, or you've been struggling with anxiety, ADHD, grief, or big life changes, I offer a collaborative space where we can tackle these challenges in a way that feels authentic to you. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy or “quick fixes.” Instead, I offer a thoughtful, steady space for self-understanding, self-compassion, and sustainable change. I pull from several modalities to best suit your needs- whether that's exploring how your past is influencing you now or practicing new tools to help you navigate today's stressors. If my approach speaks to you, I invite you to reach out for a free 10 min phone consultation where I can answer any questions and we can determine if we're a good fit to work together!

You pride yourself in having it together, but now you feel like everything is falling apart. You were looking forward to college and worked hard to get here, but now that you’re here, you feel like you just can’t get your bearings. Am I good enough? Is all this stress worth it? Will I ever feel fully competent? You feel guilty and wonder if you are ungrateful because of these questions. You want your confidence back but don’t know where to begin. Feelings of isolation and doubt are more common than you think. I've been there and I can help you regain the excitement you once felt. Therapy is a space where you can speak your fears and share your apathy. It is a moment in time that is all about you. Together, we will find your footing again. I offer online therapy sessions so that you can get the support you deserve at your convenience. Call today for a free 15 minute consultation. You push yourself to meet expectations—at work, in relationships, in every aspect of life—because failure isn’t an option. But no matter how much you achieve, that nagging voice in your head keeps telling you it’s not enough. You overanalyze your mistakes, replay conversations in your head, and wonder why you can’t just relax and feel good about where you are. The pressure is relentless. You feel like you’re sprinting toward an invisible finish line that keeps moving. The weight of expectations—your own and everyone else’s—presses down on you. Maybe you’ve convinced yourself that if you can just work harder, be better, prove your worth, you’ll finally feel okay. But deep down, you’re exhausted. And you’re starting to wonder: Does it really have to be this way? It doesn’t. Therapy can help you step off the hamster wheel of perfectionism and self-doubt. Together, we’ll identify what’s fueling the pressure, challenge the patterns that keep you stuck, and help you build a life that feels authentic, balanced, and actually fulfilling—on your terms. I help young adults and teens break free from perfectionism, self-doubt, and external pressures to build confidence and live authentically.
Hi I'm Alison Cross! I am a psychotherapist, and I provide both in person and virtual services in Georgia and North Carolina. It’s important to have an idea of what feels like the right fit when you’re looking for a qualified person to talk to. The problem is, how do you know? So here's what it looks like with me. When my client leaves our session, my goal is for them to feel heard and respected. I want my clients to feel like they’re talking to a real person. How else can trust be built? My style has been described as 'down to earth, gentle, and encouraging.' I also have a great sense of humor that comes in only when appropriate. I view therapy as a safety net for the various issues clients bring. I will collaborate with you from the very first session on goals for your time. Some people I work with prefer to set the agenda for our time together, with just a few interjections from me. Understanding the big picture and getting to the heart of the matter are things I'm good at. I have also completed the Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems and Level 1 training in the Embodied Reocvery Model. I love using these models because they are beautifully client focused. My goal is to develop a positive therapeutic relationship with you. When that happens, hope is tangible and the spirit opens to new life and new beginnings. All sessions with me will be virtual unless I'm in Atlanta and we can coordinate an in person session.
I offer traditional psychotherapy sessions, but I also work on stress management, mindfulness, emotional expression, relationship issues, depression, recovery and other issues.
I am an integrative and trauma-informed therapist and specialize in helping my clients work on improving self-esteem, boundaries, and assertiveness. My therapeutic style is relational, culturally-sensitive, insight-oriented and evidence-based. I draw from my training in psychodynamic, CBT, ACT, DBT and Gottman Method for couples.
