What could you navigate in a safe space? I will use a warm, compassionate approach as we explore what you might be seeking. Perhaps you long for fulfillment or a clarified sense of purpose. Maybe you feel stuck in patterns that don't serve you. Perhaps you are sad or anxious, grappling with a relationship, or coping with a loss. I believe sorting out your thoughts and feelings together can yield a more enjoyable life. My background is concentrated in medicine and mental health, with a particular attention to the mind-body connection. I tend to work with a lot of college students and enjoy assisting clients with life transitions and identity exploration. My specialties include LGBTQ, gender, life transitions, disabilities, and career options. I earned a BA in psychology and an MSW in social work from Tulane University. I am licensed in Louisiana, MA, and New York. I look forward to hearing from you and beginning our work together.

I hold a B. A. in English from Shanghai University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Over the last 19 years, I interned and practiced at various inpatient and outpatient settings, including Mt. Sinai-Roosevelt Hospital in NYC, Mt. Sinai-Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC, Amherst College Counseling Center in Amherst, MA, and the Community Health Center of Franklin County in Greenfield, MA. My own cross-cultural and cross-lingual experiences continue to shape the way I work. My “ideal patient” often shares these essential characteristics with me: bilingualism/biculturalism; deep-seated values for family, language, and culture; experiences of migration and adversity; an appreciation for authenticity and openness; and an unyielding curiosity about the inner workings of their own minds and those of others. I look forward to working with you!

It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Are you someone who knows how you'd like things to be, but have a hard time getting there? You are definitely not alone. Change is hard. The good news is that change is also possible. I specialize in working with female-identified college students and other adults who are successful in many ways, but have had challenges sticking with counseling in the past. This could be for different reasons, such as difficulties trusting the process of therapy or difficulty establishing a trusting relationship that allows for fully engaging in counseling. Together, we can create a space where change feels possible and progress feels sustainable, whether in short-term solution-focused work or longer-term therapy. I worked in higher education for over 20 years, so I have a strong understanding of campus life and the student experience. If you believe that I could be a good match for you, please reach out and schedule a free 20 minute consultation to discuss your goals and hopes for therapy. If you go to my website, you can schedule it yourself.

Her vast experience spans across multiple settings and states, with a significant emphasis on acute care, addressing the needs of people across different age groups and objectives. While Michelle is knowledgeable in a variety of therapeutic modalities, she believes that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. By cultivating a trauma-informed space, she ensures every client feels safe, valued, and genuinely heard throughout their therapeutic journey. Moreover, Michelle's strengths-based approach empowers clients, helping them harness their inherent potential and pave the way toward their goals. Michelle's commitment to inclusivity and individualized care is evident in her extensive training with reputable institutions such as the Transgender Training Institute, Open Sky, and MaMHCA. Beyond formal education, she constantly seeks out diverse resources to refine her expertise, ensuring her approach is both informed and empathetic. Charlie Health is a virtual behavioral health program for adolescents and young adults with moderate or severe mental health concerns or co-occurring substance use or eating disorders. Designed to meet the needs of those who require more than weekly therapy, our program combines curated group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy into personalized treatment programs. We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.
