Therapists for college students near Cambridge, MA
In addition to eclectic psychotherapy, I provide Internal Family Systems work and a variety of psychodramatic and hypnotic methods in my practice. I have worked with individuals, couples and families for over 4 decades. My belief is that people are complicated and do not fit into simplistic, diagnostic categories. My experience informs me when a therapist (or teacher) believes in your basic goodness and capabilities, you can do more than you ever thought you could.. The initial interview is of the therapist at no charge. Most insurances are accepted. Appointments are limited but available at this time.
I am a licensed mental health therapist that serves Massachusetts. With extensive experience across residential, assisted living, correctional, outpatient, and other mental health care settings, she brings a holistic understanding of client needs to her practice. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, and Interpersonal approaches in my work with adolescents and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress management, and LGBTQIA+-related concerns. I am deeply passionate about healing Black and Brown communities and is committed to providing therapy for clients who share similar lived experiences. I believe that healing is more powerful when clients feel seen, understood, and heard by someone who relates to their perspective. I shows up authentically in every session, meeting clients where they are and creating a safe, affirming space for growth and change.
The most important factor for effective therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. My goal is to build an empathetic and trustworthy relationship with you, so we can work through the issues that are motivating you for treatment in the first place. You are the expert of your own life - I can serve as a guide to help reveal the kind of life you are seeking. Many of us are disappointed by our past decisions, trapped in our current circumstances, or paralyzed with fear of the future. This can lead to behaviors that aren't helpful and create patterns that lead to anxiety, depression, or general unhappiness. Together, we will examine these behaviors, thought patterns, and emotions, and we will work together in finding out what works for you and how to easily engage in helpful and effective behaviors that propel you into the way you want to exist in the world.
We provide outpatient trauma-focused psychotherapy and mind-body wellness counseling for youth, adults, couples and families who have been impacted by interpersonal trauma, loss, social oppression and other forms of life adversity. We recognize that exposure to trauma is a pervasive reality in our world. We pay careful attention to the wide range of historical experiences that contribute to ongoing distress in those we serve. We understand our clients’ struggles through the lens of complex trauma, with the belief that individuals are shaped most profoundly by their earliest and closest relationships. When those relationships have been fraught with chronic adversity – whether due to maltreatment and neglect, poverty and discrimination, or the legacy of intergenerational or ancestral trauma – it can alter the course of healthy human development in profound ways. One’s emotions, self-worth, behaviors, and overall functioning can be deeply impacted. One’s relationships, schooling, and occupation may suffer. One’s goals and dreams, spiritual direction and overall life path can get derailed. In the same breath, we honor the resilience of the human spirit, and marvel at the capacity of every person to survive, heal, persevere and ultimately thrive despite seemingly overwhelming obstacles.

Do you find yourself stuck or pained in relationships - with yourself, others, the world, or your past? The struggle may show up as loneliness, emptiness, maladaptive interpersonal patterns, or as symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, disordered eating etc. I strive to create trust in a nonjudgmental and authentic atmosphere, from where we work together to understand and help resolve your struggles. My style in session is warm, collaborative, and actively engaged. I'm not a passive listener who nods along silently—I'm present with you, noticing what's happening in the room, gently drawing attention to patterns, emotions, and moments that matter, including the ones you might be inclined to gloss over. Sometimes our work is more experiential—slowing down to sit with what's emerging rather than rushing past it. Other times it's more practical and action-oriented—working on concrete strategies, trying new behaviors, or building skills you can use between sessions. I blend insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, and emotion-focused approaches in individualized ways that fit who you are and what you're working through. I bring extensive experience across college counseling centers and mental health clinics, having most recently served as a staff psychologist at Harvard University Health Services, and previously at Case Western Reserve University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Northwestern University (where I completed my postdoctoral fellowship). I am now in full-time private practice. I'm also the Chinese translator of Irvin Yalom's Existential Psychotherapy and The Gift of Therapy, and serve on the Expert Committee at Jiandanxinli (简单心理), the largest therapist platform in China.
