Welcome! I see graduate and medical students ages 21 and above. I have specialized training in behavioral medicine and evidenced-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I believe that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust and collaboration which thrives in a warm, authentic, and welcoming environment. Together, we will work to identify your goals, problem-solve, and develop healthy strategies to meet them. My therapy style is active and hands-on. I provide clinically effective treatment to adults across the lifespan, primarily through cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT is an evidence-based treatment to help you break free from unhealthy and maladaptive patterns of thinking and behavior. The goal is to help you live a more meaningful and satisfying life, develop fulfilling relationships, alleviate emotional distress, and improve your overall sense of well-being. I have experience in a variety of settings, including hospitals, primary care, hospice, skilled rehabilitation facilities, home-based care, nursing homes, the Veterans Administration, and outpatient clinics. I have collaborated with physicians and other allied health professionals and have a background providing behavioral health treatment to adults and older adults with diverse medical conditions, including cancer, autoimmune and genetic conditions, head and spinal cord injuries, polytrauma, dementia and other neurological disorders. To learn more about me, my services, and how we can work together to help you, please check out my website, relatespace.org, or give me a call at (617) 366-2550. I look forward to hearing from you. All the best, Dr. Lou

My ideal client is someone who is ready and motivated to dive in head first into their healing journey. Someone who knows they have their “stuff” but really wants to explore where it all stems from. I love working with those clients who just trying to figure it all out in this life (I see you, Millennials) and who are navigating the transitions and curveballs that can be thrown our way. I love meeting the client where they’re at to begin with, but don’t be surprised when I push you a little bit. I’ve been told that I have a really great way of understanding mental health, but I’m also known not to sugar coat the realities. I am trained in EMDR (A trauma processing modality using eye movements) and other trauma informed care models to explore the aspects of our past and handle the bigger emotions that could come along with that. Being real and relatable is very important to me in my sessions as the therapist/client connection is what will drive this boat. As your therapist, I can promise to provide you the tools to step outside of your own head and connect the dots that answer the question of “Why am I the way that I am”? Therapy is not always easy and we need to be honest with ourselves with what’s holding us back, but I can promise to provide positive vibes and great support every single time we meet.

I have many years of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students from many different universities to manage academic stress, family of origin challenges, interpersonal relationships, career uncertainty, and self-exploration. Understanding gender roles and the effects of masculinity expectations in the world is one of my areas of concentration and may be a helpful framework for understanding your concerns. For men and women recovering from the long-term effects of trauma, I offer expertise that is patient and well-informed to achieve lasting life improvements. The challenges you are facing may be modern and complex or may be shared throughout human existence. My approach to counseling builds from an exploration and understanding of your personal values and strengths and helps to guide your growth using scientifically validated techniques. With respectful collaboration I hope to contribute towards your healing and flourishing. My practice is informed by my Unitarian Universalist principles that value acceptance and compassion for everyone of any nationality, race, religious faith, gender expression or identification, sexual expression or identification, age, or ability. When you think of the term "college" what comes to your mind? If one of those things was that it's an extremely stressful time then you're absolutely right. This is especially true because you have to learn how to balance your school work with all your other responsibilities such as a job, sports, or other commitments. It can seem very overwhelming and sometimes you just need someone to talk to to let it all out and help provide that extra guidance. I bring a personal approach to my sessions adding in a sense of humor and honest and direct style. I strive to reduce the power dynamics where clients feel empowered to discover their inner strengths and resources to solve their own problems while I provide guidance and interventions that are supported by research. I would love to connect and learn more about you and what you may be looking for!

We all encounter difficult stressors, setbacks and experiences that sometimes cause us pain. We may be challenged by our relationships, previous trauma, difficult transitions, depression or anxiety. We can make the choice to work through these events and grow even when things are hard and confusing. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe place for you to explore your struggles, and give you objective feedback and guidance to help you improve your life. Whether you'd like to improve your mood, strengthen relationships or need support coping with a difficult circumstance I can help. Clinically, clients and I collaborate to reinforce adaptive behaviors, and understand your unique strengths so that you may live a meaningful and satisfying life. In therapy, we focus on both problem-solving difficult situations, as well as developing an understanding of long-term patterns that contribute to your distress.

Life's challenges can leave us feeling off-balance. As a therapist, I offer a warm, supportive space where you can slow down, reflect and begin to reconnect with yourself as you navigate anxiety, burnout and life transitions. I work closely with individuals from early to late adulthood. I often work with first-generation high achievers who carry strong internal pressure to succeed, manage high expectations and navigate what it means to be “the first” in their family or community. These experiences can bring pride but also anxiety, perfectionism, burnout and a sense of disconnection or uncertainty about where you’re headed. Many of the clients I work with are navigating anxiety, career uncertainty, relationship challenges or major life transitions, including midlife and aging-related changes such as shifting roles, identity questions and reassessing priorities over time. My approach is collaborative, transparent and grounded in trauma-informed and evidence-based practices. I draw from CBT, mindfulness and insight-oriented frameworks always tailoring therapy to your unique experiences and goals. I aim to help you develop practical strategies while also deepening your self-understanding so that change feels meaningful and sustainable. At Equilibria Counseling, we strive to create a space where you can show up as you are.

Helping you feel comfortable and seen is my priority. I believe that true growth cannot happen outside of a warm, safe relationship. There is so much happening for college students and having a judgement-free space to slow down, unpack thoughts/feelings and gain clarity/awareness can lead to immense empowerment and growth for young adults. I work at my client's pace and help them feel seen/validated in their experience while collaboratively addressing the difficulties together. Celebrating any feeling of success, no matter how small, is crucial! Therapy is not all about the hard things, but also about noticing the good when we can so easily be weighed down by the struggles. Thanks for considering me and I look forward to connecting with you!
