My approach has an emphasis on insight-oriented ("talk") therapy, but I use cognitive and emotion regulation approaches as well, tailored to what you need. I also offer single session therapy appointments. Please see my website for more information. Seeking therapy can be stressful and confusing. After several years working as a nurse in the medical field and understanding the mind-body connection, I discovered that I wanted to work in a way that I could create long term relationships with my patients. I believe that mental health is just as important as our physical health. Although I am a strong advocate for holistic modalities such as therapy, movement, nutrition, and sleep, psychopharmacology can be a critical part of your treatment journey. Medications work best when used in conjunction with therapy and overall well-being practices. I understand that making sure you are working with a provider who can meet you where you are and support you in your journey makes a big difference in your healing. I believe my role as a nurse practitioner is to provide education and guide you to make choices that feel the best to you and your healing.
I am a licensed social worker and a licensed marriage and family therapist with specialty in depression/anxiety, ADD/ADHD, grief and loss, trauma, substance abuse/dependence and relationship issues. My style is active and collaborative and heavily influenced by Internal Family Systems, a model of psychotherapy that understands that people have many aspects to their personalities which can often feel at odds with each other, creating a sense of paralysis. My style is relational, somatically focused, and rooted in liberation psychology. We might talk about how you are feeling, situations that you've felt that way before, and start to identify patterns of beliefs, reactions, coping strategies. My practice is focused on the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy ("CBT") to reduce symptoms of anxiety, panic and/or depression. Most of the work deals with your present and future. Thank you so much for taking a look at my profile. I have been in private practice since 2011 and prior to that primarily worked in university counseling centers with both college age clients as well as older adults. While I use cognitive behavioral treatment strategies to help clients manage what brings them into treatment, I also find that it can be helpful to explore where certain thoughts or feelings come from to create a deeper understanding and hopefully ultimately minimize unwanted feelings or symptoms. I provide a free 5-10 minute initial consultation over the phone to make sure this seems like a good match and our schedules align. Please feel free to reach out by phone or email, with email being checked more regularly. I look forward to working with you!
