Hi there, I’m Gavyn. Originally from Illinois, I spent my formative years in the Madison, Wisconsin area. My academic journey led me to the University of Milwaukee, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During high school and throughout my undergraduate years, I immersed myself in various treatment environments, from nursing homes to residential treatment facilities, and outpatient mental health clinics. My commitment to serve my community remained strong as I persisted in finding a setting that would fuel my passion for aiding others in their treatment journeys. Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I ventured to Chicago to delve into the world of wedding photography, a pursuit that fed my artistic soul but left me yearning for deeper human connections. This longing eventually led me and my husband to Colorado, where I embarked on my Master’s in Social Work, specializing in Animal Assisted Therapy. Here, I discovered a profound passion for integrating the healing potential of the human-animal bond into my therapeutic practice. My professional journey has been diverse, encompassing work with various populations, including adolescents diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and those navigating disordered eating challenges. Through these experiences, I've refined my ability to address a wide spectrum of mental health concerns. Central to my approach is a belief in the power of a strengths-based perspective, recognizing and nurturing the innate resilience and resources within each individual. I strive to cultivate a safe and supportive environment where clients can freely explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is fundamental to my practice, empowering clients to feel understood and empowered on their path to healing. When I am not in the office, you'll often find me cuddling my four fluffy animals—two cats and two dogs—or plotting my next exciting adventure.

At the heart of Amanda's work is helping others discover their truest selves so that they may flourish. Amanda believes that we are wounded in relationships and we must heal in relationships. This is why she tends to the therapeutic relationship in order to provide the experience of feeling safe. Amanda’s experience in high pressure environments allows her to cultivate her practice to heal the wounds that cause dysfunction . She is a highly sought out change agent who uses her diverse experience in the field to create a therapeutic experience that restores connection.

Are you a young adult struggling with depression or anxiety? Are you finding it hard to adapt to the academic demands and new social situations of college, and finding yourself feeling lonely, isolated, or overwhelmed? If so, I think I can help you chart a course that will help you feel better, less alone, and more connected. Adapting to life at college and planning for adulthood pose many challenges and leave some young adults feeling adrift and confused. There are many new situations to navigate whether they be how to make friends, how to balance academics with extracurriculars, or how to date and find connection. I have worked with college students and young adults for over 10 years to help them find their path, understand themselves, and deal effectively with their emotional struggles. Together, we will seek to understand what it is that troubles you and develop ways to productively deal with these difficulties. Therapy is, at its core, a relationship built on trust that focuses on helping you gain a better understanding of yourself so that you can better navigate your feelings, challenge your fears, and live a full life. I hope that we can work together to help you find your way.

I have been working in the field since 2013 and from my experience working in hospital and residential treatment centers, I became interested in addressing trauma. Trauma can come in many forms, has an impact on all of our systems. Trauma is on a continuum of stress and includes severe stress as well as stress over an extensive period of time. Sometimes, we're not aware of this and it can show up as anxiety. I offer EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Hypnotherapy. Life has a way of showing us where our work is and I am honored to have been a part of many people's recovery.

I am a good fit for clients who are seeking an active therapist. I work well with clients who are motivated for self-exploration and behavioral change. I believe therapy offers clients an opportunity to explore discomfort, emotional pain, and discover how to live more authentically. During college years, living away from home often for the first time can be challenging. Introduction to new theories and perspectives as well as people from different backgrounds can be anxiety provoking, shaking up what was previously thought to be "truths." Many college students find themselves reworking their sense of self, wanting to become their best most authentic self.

No matter what brings you to therapy, if this is your first or fourth time, healing is always possible, and you can enact change in your life. As we grow and face the world, so too grows the number of challenges and responsibilities we face. And with this increase comes the possibility for new anxieties, new depression, and new traumas to arise. Often we can be left feeling unprepared because life rarely gives us a roadmap to dealing with these complex issues. Therapy can be a daunting task, but that doesn't mean it's not a good thing. Seeking help is the first step to starting a positive change and it is only once we embrace that change that we can reach a happier and healthier place. If you've been struggling more often then not, I encourage you to reach out. Whether it's just needing a safe place to talk about life's stressors, building coping skills, seeking solutions, or beginning to work on long held traumas, we will work together to face these issues as a team.

My goal is to create a safe relationship where you can process all the pieces of your experience. We’ll look together at how your cultural identities and family context have shaped how you experience the world, and how your past impacts your present. We’ll approach your relational patterns with a sense of curiosity and compassion. We'll explore, “How did I get here, what does it mean to be here, and where do I want to go?". Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I hope to provide a space where you can face your difficulties in order to restore connection, both to yourself and to the most important people in your life. My approach is warm and direct, and I'm informed by training in attachment, trauma, grief & loss, perinatal mental health, infertility, emotional agility, embodiment, religious deconstruction, brain science, cultural influences, privilege & oppression, HAES, and couple/family systems. I am accepting new clients and I'd love to meet you! For CO: in-network with Aetna and Cigna. For IL: in-network with BCBS. I also partner with a company called Mentaya that helps clients access their out-of-network benefits. You may be eligible to receive partial reimbursements for your sessions. Contact me for more info. If you have any questions about anything on my profile, feel free to reach out!
