Therapists for college students near University of Colorado Boulder
Along with individual therapy my practice offers a Young Adult Therapy Group. I co-facilitate the young adult group with Marian Salley. We have been running this group for over 3 years, some of the members have been with us since the beginning. Group members are from all over and the group is ONLINE. Think of the members of this group as a party of adventurers, who get to know each other through time spent together, by sharing the emotionally relevant events from their own lives and the interactions that evolve between them within the group. A group of familiars they can take with them thru the various transitions in their lives. Overtime members witness each other’s ups and downs and become known to each other through the experience of sharing their lives, feelings and responding to how they effect one another in the here and now. This is an excellent group for young adults who are looking for a social space to explore emotional experiences, social anxieties, interpersonal relationships and whatever might come in a group of peers. If you are interested go to my website and look under therapy groups.
I have 20 years of experience working in the field of psychiatry. During this time I worked as a medical director for college mental health center and for the transitional program for young adults. I believe that college students benefit tremendously from the right support, offered at the right time to help them become successful adults.
It takes courage to ask for help; you have already taken the first step. Life throws us situations we don't anticipate or have encountered before and we need help getting through. You are here because you or someone you care about is in pain. You have come to the right place. We have all had those times when we need someone besides family and friends to talk to. People come to me for a variety of reasons: anxiety and depression, adjusting to the college transition, relationship problems, family issues, emotional and social struggles, rebuilding self-esteem, teen difficulties, general life transitions, and personal growth. I have great success in helping individuals, couples and families overcome their difficulties and unresolved issues that are affecting their day-to-day lives. I assist people in gaining insight as to what issues may be causing them anguish and making changes that are within their control. I genuinely care for the well-being of my clients and work hard to find creative ways to help them achieve their goals and find peace in their lives. *Please feel free to call and ask for additional information about my practice or visit my website @ www.susancaso.com.
A therapy session with me always starts with you. I want you to feel safe and comfortable as you share your situation. While making that first call to a therapist is difficult, most people feel great relief once they do. My main focus is Women in College, processing their challenges and moving toward who they want to become. My goal for you, is to help you find relief quickly. I work with people facing a variety of challenges, including: Anxiety, Life Transitions, Stress, Conflict, Trauma and Childhood Trauma. I offer support, encouragement, and guidance. Therapy is not about living a stress-free life, but rather learning how to navigate that stress with confidence and skill. The work we do is interactive, and I will encourage you to explore options, opportunities and choices. We will work together to help you create a sense of calm, self-assurance and stability as you navigate your life and the issues that have brought you in to meet with me. In my experience, clients I have done EMDR therapy with have had quicker, more effective and longer lasting results than traditional talk therapy. I am a mindfulness and body-oriented therapist who specializes in various challenges such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, and developmental issues. I believe that a deep dive into our more painful experiences is less frightening when done in the presence of a loving and non-judgmental therapist. I help people let go of fear and step into their full potential. Together, we will move through your trauma and pain from the past, unearth the parts of yourself that are no longer serving you, and create positive change and movement in your life from this point forward. The problems and symptoms bringing you to seek therapy might be connected to things you wish never happened. This can be overwhelming to feel and vulnerable to invite another person to be with you. Deep down you may be hoping for change and eager for healing, but unsure of how to get it. I believe psychotherapy is a sacred process that can look underneath the surface and explore deeply-rooted issues to help create long lasting and significant change. My hope is to partner with you to help you understand yourself, deepen your relationships with others, and foster your healing journey. I take a psychodynamic approach to therapy, focusing on how emotional and relational experiences contribute to past and present suffering. My goal is to collaborate with you to help understand why you are hurting and help equip you to develop new ways of relating to yourself and others in order to find the relief and healing you want. Finding a therapist that is a right fit for you and your needs is important, most likely prompting your current search. Based in Colorado, we work with many individuals who love the outdoors. Mountain climbing and other popular outdoor activities come with inherent risks, but we accept those risk to live a full life. Climbers must focus upward to calm their nerves, often relying on others to help them advance effectively and safely. Just take it one rock at a time and trust your body. Similar to climbing a mountain, in therapy you choose to take a risk; inviting someone else to join your climbing team to help you along the way. The Focus Upward team are here to help support your climb with mental health and wellbeing services.

I provide a compassionate and supportive environment, offering practical guidance to help young adults navigate these multifaceted changes. My approach is designed to help overcome these obstacles, address emotional and mental health challenges, and foster a deep sense of purpose and direction.
Individuals struggling with suicidal ideation can come to The Hope Institute for treatment, to increase hope, and obtain the ability to safely wait for ongoing outpatient care, when needed. Our approach is unique, as it is based in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), two of the most effective, evidence-based models currently available for treating suicidality. With the use of CAMS and DBT, the clinician and client will work together to solve problems. CAMS is an evidenced-based therapeutic framework for suicide-specific assessment and treatment of a patient’s suicidal risk. Each session of CAMS intentionally utilizes the patient’s input about what is and is not working. All assessment work in CAMS is collaborative; we seek to have the patient be a “co-author” of their own treatment plan (CAMS-care, 2024). DBT is a type of talk therapy that gives clients skills in regulating their emotions, tolerating distress, maintaining healthy relationships, practicing mindfulness and thinking from perspectives other than their own. THI is home to multiple clinicians who are certified and trained in CAMS and DBT. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based behavior focused treatment intended to help clients build a life worth living while reducing suicidal and self-harming behaviors. Parent and teen groups are available. DBT groups provide clients with five core skills to manage intense emotions and enhance day-to-day life: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and dialects.
