If anxiety, intrusive thoughts, OCD, phobias or depressive thoughts take up too much space in your life, I will work with you to uncover their sources. You can establish and engage in useful coping skills that will allow you to spend less time battling your thoughts and more time living the life you want. If you're a couple struggling with relationship concerns, I will work with you to restore harmony in your relationship and strengthen your connection. I aim to provide a safe, warm and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore their emotions, while also feeling comfortable and validated when sharing experiences, thoughts and behaviors. I practice using evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as self-compassion and mindfulness techniques. Gottman Method Couples Therapy informs my work with couples. If you choose therapy as a next step, I would be honored to work with you and support you in your journey of self-growth and healing! In our work together, you can expect a space that honors your identity, your boundaries, and your voice. Healing is not linear—and growth doesn’t require perfection. Hi, I’m Joanna Lester—founder of First Circle Therapy, a Colorado-based virtual practice. I specialize in working with college and grad students who are thoughtful, creative, and sensitive—but overwhelmed by the pressure to keep it all together. If you're juggling deadlines, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about who you're becoming, you might feel anxious, unmotivated, burned out, or just not yourself. You’re not alone—and therapy can be a space to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with what really matters to you. Our work can help you move through cycles of self-doubt, people-pleasing, or perfectionism and into a more grounded, self-led life. Whether you're processing trauma, navigating identity shifts, or learning to set healthier boundaries, I offer space to explore your inner world with clarity and care. In our sessions, we’ll use nervous system tools (to help your body shift out of fight-or-flight and feel more at ease) and parts work (to help the different sides of you—like the achiever, avoider, or inner critic—work together instead of against each other). You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. I offer free consultations to see if we’re a fit, and I accept several major insurance plans to make therapy more accessible. Feel free to reach out—no pressure.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly 15 years of experience and I’m passionate about partnering with individuals on their journey toward improved health and well-being. As a health psychologist, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life as they navigate the challenges that often accompany mental and physical health concerns. Currently, I specialize in supporting adolescents and adults dealing with stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and other health-related issues. A bit about my approach to therapy: I believe therapy is a deeply personal experience, and it’s essential to understand and support the whole person. It’s important to me that every individual feels respected, heard, and that the goals we work toward in therapy are collaborative and meaningful. My hope is that each person feels supported as they make progress toward their goals and gain tools they can carry with them outside of therapy.

“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” – bell hooks The healing journey can be an intimidating path, and you don’t have to travel it alone. I believe that the role of a therapist is to walk beside you on your healing path. My top priority is to create a safe, accepting space where you can explore your inner landscape and develop skills to navigate your outer world. I am a trauma-informed, intersectional feminist who cares deeply about helping clients reclaim their power and reconnect to their voice. In my person-centered, strengths-based therapeutic environment, I integrate EMDR, expressive writing and arts exercises, trauma-informed mindfulness techniques, and talk therapy to help you reconnect to yourself and your self-worth. (EMDR, briefly, is a well-researched therapeutic process which can support clients in processing trauma and building inner resources.) I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abusive relationships, sexual assault, grief and loss, chronic illness, and various traumas. I am also a queer person who loves supporting my community members. It can be hard to reach out for help. If you're ready to take the next step, I’m here to support you in your healing. Please reach out to schedule a free 30-minute consult if you would like to connect with me.

I aim to guide clients in discovering their patterns and getting off autopilot to begin living a life they choose! I am strongly connected with non-traditional lifestyles and work to cultivate a safe place for all people, most frequently working with clients in queer, non-monogamous, & kink relationships. Most of my clients are wanting to work on issues mostly unrelated to but within the context of these communities and lifestyles, and are tired of having to spend so much time explaining the context to therapists unfamiliar with their world. I also work with folks looking to explore these aspects of themselves for the first time. Growing up, my father's Navy career caused our family to move every 0.5-2.5 years. Since transition was my constant, I developed unique insight into the complex intersection and paradox of excitement, anxiety, fear, resistance, confidence, insecurity, love, and hate that can all be felt simultaneously during times of major change. This is why I love working with college students and helping them to navigate experiences such as: being away from home and re-configuring family relationships; exploring new friendships and romantic relationships; discovering their life path(s); learning a larger variety of ways to cope, communicate, and relate to themselves and the world; and diving more deeply into issues related to identity (e.g. sexuality, gender, higher consciousness, vocation, etc.). I tailor my approach with each of my clients, but primarily utilize mindfulness, experiential activities, and somatic techniques (i.e. deepening the relationship and communication between your mind and body).

At Zephyr Behavioral Health and Wellness, we work best with students who feel like they’ve been pushing through life on hard mode. You might be overwhelmed, burned out, or constantly second-guessing yourself. Maybe school feels harder than it should, relationships feel confusing, or you’re exhausted from trying to keep up with expectations that don’t quite fit who you are. Many of the students we support are neurodivergent (including ADHD, autism, or sensory differences), navigating anxiety or depression, or carrying the weight of chronic stress or past experiences. Some come to us feeling stuck or misunderstood. Others are high-achieving but quietly struggling beneath the surface. You don’t need to have everything figured out to get started. Our team focuses on creating a space that is affirming, collaborative, and practical. Where you can show up as you are and build tools that actually work for your brain, your goals, and your life. If you’re looking for support that feels respectful, personalized, and aligned with who you are, Zephyr may be a good fit for you.

I believe healing your relationships with others starts by healing your relationship with yourself. I guide clients through the healing process by providing the tools needed to connect with yourself, your body, and the world around you. Through therapy, I believe it is possible to improve your self-esteem, grow interpersonal relationships, and end negative thought patterns. I am passionate about providing an accessible therapy experience by operating from a trauma-informed and multicultural lens. When working with couples, I emphasize the importance of communication and empathy and honor the uniqueness and nuance of each individual. I utilize empathy, humor, and curiosity to connect with clients on a genuine, human level. I'm enthusiastic about helping others tackle issues including depression, interpersonal issues, eating disorders, negative self-talk, body image, anxiety, addiction, and self-harm through modalities such as ACT, DBT, CBT, Gottman principles and person-centered therapy. The first step of a long journey is always the most challenging. I encourage you to reach out for help and allow me to meet you along your route- to help guide you towards inner-peace and healing. I want to build upon the "traditional" therapy experience- in addition to telehealth and in-office sessions, I also offer connection through movement and nature.
