Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years experience, I fully appreciate the importance of finding the right match with a therapist who can offer a compassionate and professional approach to navigating life's challenges. I embrace what may be very painful difficulties as opportunities for positive growth and problem solving, while holding sacred the courage and curiosity it takes to embark upon a very personal therapeutic journey. Being a student inevitably includes personal transformation and growth, not to mention stress and the need for problem solving skills! Getting support, be it brief in nature, or for longer-term emotional regulation, can be invaluable during times of such transition. I offer particular expertise in such areas as: treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, healing from past abuse/victimization (particularly sexual abuse), and EMDR Therapy, in addition to addressing life transitions, the impacts of social injustice and oppression, and overall stress management and relationship restoration.
I help college students & young adults go from feeling overwhelmed and self critical to feeling grounded, connected, and compassionate toward themselves. If you’re feeling stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or never feeling “ good enough,” I'm here to help! Therapy with me is a space to slow down, get to know yourself, and learn tools to feel steady, confident, and aligned in your life. My goal is to provide a space where you can show up fully. I often use EMDR, ACT, and IFS when working with my clients but we'll collaborate and find the approaches that work best for you! If you’ve been thinking that you want things to shift, or that life is feeling off, therapy with me can help you sort through it! If this feels like a good fit, I’d love to connect and answer any questions or help you get started!
Beginning therapy—or starting with a new therapist—can feel vulnerable and daunting. As a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), I create a space that feels welcoming, non-judgmental, and safe to support adults who are ready to improve their well-being and navigate life’s transitions with greater clarity, resilience, and self-compassion. My specialties include perinatal mental health and women’s mental health across the lifespan, along with mood and anxiety disorders, stress management, attachment disorders, and more. When working together, you are assured a warm and non-pathologizing approach to care that is grounded in humility and respect for the courage it takes to share your story. I welcome the opportunity to connect for a brief consultation, bringing skill and compassion to your journey no matter where you’re at along the path. I believe each person is the expert in their own life. Therapy is, therefore, a collaborative process, where I listen deeply and work with you to clarify your goals and move toward healing and greater well-being at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we attend not only to areas of pain, but also to your strengths, values, and passions. My approach is warm, person-centered, and strengths-based, drawing flexibly from a range of evidence-based modalities. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. In addition, I am trained in the Gottman Method (Level 1) and use Gottman techniques in my work with couples. As a clinician with lived experience as a mother and more than ten years of experience as an educator, I bring a deep understanding of family systems, child development, and the realities of parenting. This background allows me to support mothers and families with both compassion and practical insight. When I’m not in the office, I love reading, spending time in nature, taking in all kinds of art, and having adventures with my family.
WELCOME! I'm so glad you're here. Many of the people I work with are adults who’ve carried more than their fair share — the ones who look capable on the outside but feel anxious or disconnected on the inside. They've usually spent years masking ADHD/AuDHD, are deeply sensitive, and/or are trying to heal from complex trauma (CPTSD). If this sounds like you, I want you to know you're not alone, and you don’t have to keep trying to “figure it out” by yourself. I won’t hand you a checklist or tell you to breathe it away - I promise! Therapy with me is about noticing what’s alive for you and finding ways to move through patterns that have kept you stuck. With over 25 years of experience, and decades dedicated to my own recovery, I offer both professional expertise and a deeply lived understanding to our sessions. I’m quirky, a little unconventional, and definitely human. In our work together, we'll go beyond simply talking about your life. I'll help you to shift out of over-thinking and connect with the wisdom of your heart and body. That’s where your strength and self-trust already live, and where the parts of you that know how to heal can be heard. My therapy dog, Leasel, often joins us, offering her calm presence when words aren’t enough. I draw from approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Therapy, integrated with Conscious Living principles. This work helps us uncover patterns that have been shaping your experiences and guides you toward change that's meaningful and actually lasts. Why I May Be A Good Fit For You I believe complex trauma shapes how we connect and move through the world—but those patterns can soften when we’re met with compassion and someone who’s been there. I grew up in a family that looked good on the outside but was marked by addiction and narcissism and it taught me how essential it is to be seen for who we truly are. I'm passionate about helping sensitive people know that hope is real, no matter what. I believe healing happens when we can be honest with ourselves and experience real connection. I show up as a real person—warm and down-to-earth. I also believe animals and nature offer healing when words fall short. I care deeply about neurodivergent folks, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and creating space for anyone who’s ever felt like they're on the outside looking in. I look forward to connecting with you!
Change is not linear. I have come to understand the numerous challenges in life that can make you feel as if you have gone nowhere. The anxiety that sets in is alarming and the depression that may later consume you feels debilitating. However, I have also come to understand the impact that we have on our own suffering: how we often jump to "I can't" instead of "I can try." We have all found ourselves deep in self-doubt, feeling stuck in the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Are you looking for a chance to see how change and success can become more linear overtime? My approach can help you get there. My early experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has allowed me to mold the foundations of DBT with other empirically supported treatments (MI, CBT) to fit the needs of my clients. A combination of skill use, gentle challenging of core beliefs and thought distortions, as well as strengths recognition has proven effective with a variety of clients. My ultimate goal as a therapist is to provide a supportive environment that serves as a safe space for you to challenge yourself. I assist my clients in developing a natural reaction of "radical acceptance" in an effort to decrease overall suffering. Together, we can create a mindset that helps you to see your own strengths in any given situation.

With over 25 years of experience in substance abuse and mental health, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by many underserved populations. While I have extensive experience working with diverse populations, my approach is centered on helping each client—regardless of background—discover their strengths, build resilience, and create a path toward healing and personal growth. My focus is helping individuals in these communities address issues such as anger management, substance abuse, and overall emotional well-being. My culturally sensitive therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to empower clients to overcome obstacles and build a fulfilling life. I believe in the strength, resilience, and wisdom each person brings to therapy, and I am committed to providing a space where healing and growth can occur.
Anxiety doesn't have to run your life. You can find joy again. On the surface, things are still looking great. You appear to “have it all”, but, on the inside, things are falling apart. You feel stressed, overwhelmed and out of control. It doesn’t have to be like this, and I can show you another way. I help driven people just like you manage their anxiety, stress and irritable bowel syndrome. You can gain stability and finally enjoy your success. If you are ready to do the hard work of changing your life, I’d love to talk to you.
Do you lie awake at night, sheets twisting beneath you, worst-case scenarios running through your head? On social media, you’re bombarded with horrific news of terrorist attacks, plane crashes, mass shootings. The unremarkable posts hurt just as much. Captions like “My mom is the best! I’d be lost without her!” make you clench up inside, heat coursing through your veins. People tell you to “Stay strong,” but they have no idea what you’ve been through. After experiencing trauma, nothing feels safe or certain. You want to curl up on the couch and push everything else away. I am so glad you are here. You deserve to be seen, heard and understood. With an outstretched hand, I will meet you where you are and together we can walk towards wholeness and healing. Imagine waking up fully rested, enjoying that smooth cup of coffee, driving to work confident that you can handle the day’s challenges and feeling fully present in your life. I’m ready to help you heal from trauma. Let's shed the shame and weight so you feel calm and in control. Send me an email today so we can schedule our first session. You deserve to take up space. You are worth it.
"I can't find meaning in life" ... "I don't know how to be real with myself or those around me" ... "I don’t feel connected to my partner anymore." Everyone wants to feel connected. We yearn to feel we belong and have meaning in who we are and what we do. Yet, it is not always that easy. I get it. However, I believe therapy can be a space for us to work together on finding meaning and developing the relationships you want. That is why I am here. To see you, to hear your voice, to understand your story, and to walk alongside you to get to where you want to go. Above all else, I believe in utilizing a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to counseling to understand all of who you are--your thoughts, feelings, somatic experiences, desires, beliefs, and relationships. This way, you can become more aligned with your heart, mind, and body, working together to achieve your goals. In addition, I believe in using your values, purpose, and "why's" to help you align what you are doing and want to do with why you want to do it. As Friedrich Nietzsche states, "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how."
Are you struggling to engage or enjoy activities you once used to, or to make healthy friendships, connect, stay focused on studies? Perhaps you are noticing that acute or past traumas are getting in the way of feeling safe in your own body and coping is or has become very difficult. I specialize in working with emerging, young adults who battle anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex childhood trauma, addiction, suicidal thoughts and more. Counseling with me will be a warm, authentic and safe experience where together, we can gently process the thoughts, fears and doubts that keep you feeling stuck and perhaps miserable. Therapy may involve processing trauma, helping you develop increased awareness, exploring thought processes, relationships and behavior patterns, as well as learning new skills to manage your symptoms and relationships.
Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision. It's important to find someone that you can relate to and most importantly someone that you trust. We will work together to create a secure relationship, where you begin to feel less alone experiencing emotional vulnerability. My capacity to truly see you, and your capacity to feel comfortable being seen, will be essential to your healing. It is my belief that lasting growth does not occur as a result of insight and understanding alone. Deep healing and change happen when you are able to explore new emotional experiences and to try new behaviors, in the presence of a supportive person (therapist). I work with adults and older adolescents to address old wounds, to increase self compassion and to develop increased emotional stability and flexibility. Hi, I'm Michael, I understand that tackling life's challenges can feel daunting. We can feel overwhelmed, and not sure where to start. Whether you are going through a tough time or have been grappling with an ongoing mental health concern, therapy can be a tool to help you learn more about yourself and develop strategies to better manage these challenges. Prior to going into private practice I worked in college counseling for 5 years so I am familiar with the unique challenges college students face in managing their mental health while in school. In working with me, clients can expect to have a warm and non-judgmental space where they can work through personal challenges as well as work towards goals and areas of growth. Outside of work I enjoy catching a horror movie, hiking, and spending time with my diva of a cat. Some of my areas of clinical interest include, relationship and family issues, college counseling, trauma, anxiety, non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships, substance use, grief & loss, and depression. I have a passion for working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and have experience providing safe and affirming therapy for trans and non-binary clients. Finding a therapist that is a good fit for you is so important. Finding a therapist can feel overwhelming, but with the right one by your side, true healing can begin. As a clinical social worker specializing in individual psychotherapy, my goal is to make that process feel a little less daunting by offering a collaborative, supportive space where you can show up as you are. My work centers on older adolescents and adults navigating mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression, as well as those moving through life transitions, grief, loss, or anticipated loss. As a queer clinician, providing identity-affirming care is also central to my practice, particularly for those exploring sexuality and gender, or who face systemic barriers to self-expression and self-actualization. If you choose to work together and the connection feels right, I'm confident we can do meaningful work. My approach is strengths-based, relational, and grounded in a person-in-environment perspective, which means I consider you within the greater context of your life, your relationships, and the systems that shape your daily experience. All of my work is rooted in a social justice framework, and a deep belief in every person's inherent dignity and worth. Together, we'll explore the events and relationships — both past and present — that inform how you move through the world, building deeper self-understanding and self-compassion along the way. You can expect a warm, accepting, and responsive environment where the therapeutic approach is tailored to your unique needs and preferences. That often means blending meaningful self-reflection with a growing toolkit of practical skills and techniques you can carry with you outside of our sessions. Before becoming a therapist, nearly a decade was spent working as a professional musician, an experience that instilled a deep appreciation for the courage and vulnerability that authentic self-expression requires. Sitting with our emotions, sharing them, and exploring them can feel scary, but it can also be genuinely beautiful, opening doors to connection and self-discovery that might otherwise stay closed. At my core, connecting with people has always been what drives me. That's why authentic curiosity, empathy, and an open mind are things I bring to every interaction. My education, lived experiences, and professional background all converge in service of one goal: creating a space where you can work toward better understanding yourself and expressing who you truly are. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me singing, traveling, or cooking and baking for the people I love. Shared meals with friends and family are something I treasure deeply, as are deep belly laughs and adventures with my husband and our dog, Bagel.
If you are feeling dissatisfied in your relationships or if you are feeling anxious and stuck adjusting to changes, we will work together to find hope in your life and growth towards your goals. I work with couples and adults who are highly motivated to learn communication strategies that lead to genuine connection, collaboration and compromise, and unlearn communication patterns that lead to disconnection, disappointment and despair. As a life long learner, I am passionate about helping individuals, students and professionals identify their purpose, meaning and "why" as an antidote to burnout and stress. I have experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which provides a helpful set of tools to cope with distress and help you be more present in the moment. I have Level 2 training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy. As a fellow parent, I enjoy supporting couples and individuals as you adjust to the joys and stressors of becoming parents and helping you balance the flexibility and structure required in expanding your family unit. Welcome To Our Group Practice A message from the Founder and Clinical Director: I want you to know how excited I am to meet you. I light up when I think about ways I can support you and be a part of ushering human beings into a new world. I feel hopeful when I see the work of Brene Brown, HeatherAsh Amara, Tara Brach and many others like them who are doing work on a large scale to help us move out of the old paradigm of living from the head- comparison, acquisition, power at all costs, being the smartest person in the room, and fierce independence. We are evolving into heart-centered living- which is practicing empathy, compassion, acceptance, cooperation, openness, interdependence and curiosity. This is how I want to live, do you? I believe it is possible and heart-centered living starts with healing past wounds and freeing up our energy to take responsibility for our lives. I was a kid who had a lot of energy. I loved doing cartwheels in the grass, voraciously reading every single one of the books in the Babysitters Club series and climbing the weeping willow trees that grew near my house. I've always loved exploring, learning, and moving my body. Now, I use that energy to climb rock walls, hike mountains, and enthusiastically lead therapists in our thriving private practice while facilitating a kick-ass women's empowerment program. I get energized when I feel into how much healing we get to do together. I have discovered my gifts of curiosity, intuition, and a natural tendency to care about and hold compassionate space for others. I channel this into my work with individual clients, workshops that I facilitate, and the mentorship and training that I offer to the therapists who work with me at Insight. I want you to feel excitement about your life and journey towards bringing your gifts forth. We can help you discover who you are under the layers of self-protection, survival mode, and numbing the overwhelm. The first steps toward this is saying yes to yourself, beginning your healing, and trusting the process. Our group practice offers so many avenues for growth. We have specialties in EMDR, Internal Family Systems, group work and workshops, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Existential Therapy, and more. Explore our website to see what speaks to you and reach out to our Client Care Coordinator. She can determine who and what will be the best fit for your goals. If you feel a YES rising in you, if you want to live more from your HEART and SOUL- then give us a call and schedule your first appointment or join our next workshop. You are worth it. You matter. Take the leap! With Love, Respect, and Hope, Bethany
