Accepting clients Last Updated 6 days ago

Hello, I'm Sylvia. I earned my BA from the University of Rhode Island, my MSW from Boston College, and my PhD from Northeastern University. With a rich background in clinical work, I've had the privilege of working with mental health clients, abuse survivors, individuals with substance use disorders, and correctional populations. Additionally, I am honored to hold the title of Professor Emerita from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Over the years, I've authored five textbooks on topics such as substance abuse, substance abuse treatment, family violence, child welfare, and mental illness. My most recent book, 'Social Work and Mental Health: Evidence-based Policy and Practice,' was published by Springer Publishing in 2020.

Therapy, to me, is an exploration of self-discovery through reflection on feelings, thoughts, behavior, and relationships with others. It's a journey where we seek to live a deeper and more fulfilling life. My approach to therapy is holistic and eclectic, incorporating client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. I firmly believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the bedrock of the odyssey through therapy into change.

I specialize in providing support through SonderMind Video Telehealth, and I have extensive experience working with issues related to addiction, psychosis/schizophrenia, anxiety, family relationships, stress, and trauma. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, and work towards meaningful change.

I look forward to hearing from you and sharing in your journey.
