It can be very challenging for non-neurotypical individuals to find a therapist who is relatable, knowledgeable, and experienced. Neurodiverse individuals often exhibit a variety of non-neurotypical behaviors and communication strategies. Despite this, many of the core features, symptoms, and traits of an autism spectrum disorder are very similar among many individuals with ADHD and/or Autism.

I have dedicated my career to treating individuals with non-neurotypical disorders. This allows me some distinct advantages when working with others on the spectrum. I can build rapport and understanding quickly, without common communication barriers that prevent others from being seen and heard. I understand the internal pressure that accompanies sensory issues, transitional stress, and the autistic burnout cycle.

Individuals on the autism spectrum also have significant neurological differences in their “wiring”. This results in multiple challenges such as sensory concerns, transitional stress, social difficulties, and stimming or self-regulation behaviors. These challenges are not usually socially acceptable and the neurodiverse individual engages in a survival-based behavior known as masking. Long-term masking behavior has been shown to contribute to “autistic burnout” and may result in anxiety and other possible comorbid disorders. Life is difficult for neurodiverse individuals and therapy with a neurodiverse therapist can help.

I am a fully licensed professional therapist in Wisconsin and am currently working on reciprocity with IL. I have significant experience working with Adults with ADHD, Autism, and LGBTQIA+ populations. I hold an undergraduate degree in social work from UW-Whitewater, a master’s degree in community counseling from Lakeland University. I am actively working to complete my clinical Psy.D degree from National Luis University.
