I truly believe in the power of interpersonal connection, alliance and humanistic dialogue to promote authenticity, find the best solutions for the clients, and facilitate change. Every person is unique and, therefore, everyone’s view of his or her own world, and their ability to manage it, should be valued. I believe in staying curious and open minded, remaining passionate about people and making sure people are heard.
As a therapist, I practice in a client-centered approach, and can support you with more targeted evidence-based, ACT and DBT interventions to address anxiety or replenish your coping repertoire. During client-centered therapy, a therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging the client’s experience without imposing treatment goals and leading the client towards a hidden agenda. The therapist is there to encourage and support the client without interrupting or interfering with their process of self-discovery, as they uncover what hurts and what is needed to repair it.
I specialize in health psychology (helping clients struggling with health concerns, including sexual health, prenatal and postpartum care, chronic diseases, pain, and eating disorders) and aging.
I love working with adult clients (17+) experiencing stressors associated with life transitions including early adulthood, identity and relationship concerns (including unique challenges of the LGBTQ+ population), parenthood, midlife crises, failure to launch, empty nesting, and end of life matters.
Last but not least, I'm fluent in Russian, and honored to support fellow immigrant and refugee clients, assisting them with cultural adaptation and related trauma.
When it comes to my personal background, I was born and raised in USSR. I moved around a lot and lived in four countries before settling in the United States. I earned my Master's and Doctorate in Chicago and moved to Boulder, Colorado for my postgraduate training. As an immigrant I'm intimately familiar with the stress of adjustment to major life transitions and with the sense of loneliness and inadequacy that can accompany these transitions.
I'm an avid adventurer and embrace all things Colorado. Pursuing a challenging path for the reward of a new insight or the experience itself represents both mountaineering and therapy to me. I deeply empathize and personally understand the challenges of physical and mental limitations impacting one's ability to move forward. I honor the privilege of supporting my clients through their unique journeys and helping them to overcome the obstacles that come up on the windy roads of their lives.
